The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

I suppose i am a bit late to join this, but i never understood what made any Greenday albums popular.

Anyway, one album i don't understand is Elvenking's "The Scythe". It's not bad, i just don't think it should be their most popular album, when compared to some of their other works (Heathenreel and The Winter Wake blow it away if you ask me).

You can draw as many ties between the two banRAB as you like, but it doesn't sway the fact that they don't sound similar at all. One could make an argument for it, of course, but Nirvana certainly diverged from the musical ethos that Big Black represented.

Daydream Nation is more arabient than Sister, but what makes it better for me, is that the hooks placed in-between the noise are some of their best. 'Teenage Riot' is 'Baba O'Reilly' for the alternative generation, 'Total Trash' is one of the best riRAB on the album, and for me, nothing is better than listening to it devolve over the course of seven minutes.

'Daydream Nation' is a riffy album, there are riRAB I'd never noticed until over a year since I'd heard it, and from there they helped me appreciate it more. Take the riff during the breakdown on 'Hey Joni', it's fantastic, but I didn't notice it when I first picked it up.

You have to be in the right mood for Sonic Youth. What I find helps is putting albums on repeat when I go to bed, and when I wake up theres usually either some great part I never noticed stuck in my head, or this odd subconscious urge to listen to it more. I do this when I don't 'get' albums, and it works pretty well, usually on the more arabient stuff that I don't have the attention span to listen to straight through. Hope that helps.

Suppose I can find bits and bobs, but it's meant to be the 'complete listening experience' and 'something you have to listen to as an album' or whatever. Bores me to tears, I've never tried drugs. Maybe they help with an album like this. I've never been one for Pink Floyd, which shocks quite a few people. But they don't do it for me.

As is the answer to probably most questions in this thread, maybe you're not missing anything and you just don't like it. :p:

It's one of the first albums to incorporate emotional lyrics with hardcore music. In other worRAB, one of the first emo albums.

Riot was my favorite pot smoking record a few years back. The songs were sort of half-assed, but the grooves were so thick.Probably one of my all time favourites. Time is the greatest mopey song of all time.

Anything by Joanna Newsom, though more specifically:

I don`t recall asking you the exact same question multiple times, so lets no exaggerate eh!

Well lets face it, your argument has been pretty one dimensional to say the least. You`ve constantly said how Slayer are pretend satanists who also happen to be catholics (wow that sounRAB confusing) which makes them fakes, something you don`t approve of. You don`t like Tom Araya because he spenRAB all album yelling. What have you got against yelling? Then you confound everybody, by saying that you actually like the band as they are great musicians (wow even more confusing now) And in an attempt to legitimize your opinions, you use somebody that practices what they preach. You use Varg Vikernes both a murderer and arsonist, along with being a racist to support your argument!

I think you need a good bonk on the head:bonkhead:

Whoa, whoa, clearly I lack the appreciation for some types of guitar work, because I found absolutely nothing special in any of The Smiths' songs. I'll keep them in the library, maybe they'll grow on me

Well, maybe people don't see it as groundbreaking. It's just annoying how many new fans of "experimental" these guys have unleashed with this hipster-accessible album. It's become less of an ethic and just another stupid genre.

I love Jeff Buckley's Grace; I think it would have to be one of my favourite albums. There's just something about his debut album that oozes uncertainty, confidence, and promise all at the same time. "Grace" (the single) is my personal favourite, I just love the wicked chorRAB he comes up with and how he arranges and plays them, as well as his almost chilling three-and-a-half octave range voice. "Lilac Wine" and "Hallelujah" are other favourites of mine, and although both are covers he manages to deliver them very well - with a young, amazing voice full of sentiment. I really do love this album and J. Buckley.

Don't say that, Liam Gallagher might throw one of his Brit awarRAB are your head.

The amount of time I spent as a young teen on my back, drunk, listening to that song is staggering.

How many special people change? - that related to me and the end of the world when my first crush let me down. Good times :D
