The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

Listen to it again, it takes a while for it to sink in. I felt indifferent the first few time i listened to it, i felt a bit disappointed, then after about the 5th or 6th play it started to click. Now i love that album, it's nearly as good as Carnavas.

Shut up. I like it now. I was just digging up old albums I didn't like back then and seeing people's opinions on them.

I like that and American Football now, when months ago I had no time for them whatsoever. Yay.

Your first paragraph reflects the fact that you haven't read the conversation. I have spent quite a while explaining the difference between singers who sing about things that aren't necessarily true about themselves and Tom Araya.

Someone honestly tell me that Slayer didn't want to at least seem like they were for real. They weren't open about their religion at the beginning. I think it's because they thought it would lessen their image and they didn't want that. Therefore: pretenders.

Thanks for introducing me to your logic. Would you mind using it to explain how one can be both a catholic and a satanist?

Are you suggesting that Tom Araya would burn churches and stab people in the forehead if he wasn't afraid of going to American prison? Call me crazy but... i highly doubt that. And you're right, he's not a murderous attention whore, he's just an attention whore.

Also, I don't appreciate your comment that I must not be a music lover or fan or something just because of my particular opinion. I happen to be a music major. I think I must have a certain amount of love for it. Just because my opinion differs from yours doesn't mean it is incorrect.

RiRAB drilled into you, Josh Homme is also a very underrated lyricist IMO.

One that's always puzzled me:

All I heard of this album was bland and boring.. Can anyone shed any light on why people think this is a great album?

Stuff like that isn't really for me, but a lot of people rate the band, and I liked a couple of songs, so I thought it might be something I was missing. But it might be just not my cup of tea

He likes Linkin Park though. So that makes up for it :p:

I dunno, if you don't get The Smiths then you just don't get them and you probably never will. They're a very British band, their British identity is really strong. I think if you don't like Marr's melodic guitar playing paired with Moz's cynicism then you're just plain hopeless.

I feel the same way about My Bloody Valentine. I've never actually made it through the entire album, it just sounRAB wrong to me. I heard a song on the radio once that had a nice melody so I thought I'd give it a shot, but the rest was just hurting my ears. I may try again one day but why listen to music I don't enjoy? I believe in giving albums multiple tries before passing judgment but sometimes if it's painful it's not worth it. :p:

It's not that it's a bad album but i really don't have the patience for it. Some of the greatest albums in the world are growers but this takes FAR too much work and at the end of the day life is short and there's a lot more interesting stuff out there that i want to hear.

this is what bothers me most about TMR

self-described weird people from all over the net call it the ultimate weird album for weird people like themselves without taking the time to recognize that when they're discussing music online they're no longer the weird ones.

i don't consider any of the music i listen to as weird, just what I like. whether it's the residents, zappa, sun ra, the 'weird' factor is irrelevant. while it 'would' likely be considered weird if i tried discussing some of these banRAB with social peers in a face to face situation i'd also be forced to discuss music with people who think ragging about 'theory of a dead nickel creed' is a hilarious play on worRAB as opposed to being so lame it's not even worth the effort of rolling my eyes.
