The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

i'm not really a fan of her work with VU, but a few of her solo albums are wonderful. John Cale's production suits her voice much better than Warhol's, The Marble Index is probably my favorite.

Her voice isn't for everybody.

Really though, it's just the way she uses her voice, basically as if it was an instrument.

She's not the only vocalist that does this, but certainly one of the only ones that dosen't do it in a "they do my songs on American Idol" kind of way.

Yeah, I still kind of like Blink 182 and early Green Day because they're what got me into music in the first place. While some of their songs I can't stand now (Time of Your Life, gets on my ****ing nerves), I still like some.

Based on this record? Perhaps. It's an excellent pop record with more depth than most, but the Avant-Garde tag is because of recorRAB like Feels and Sung Tongs, which are much murkier and experimental, not to mention less one-dimensional.

It's hilarious how everyone chooses to ignore it when i mention that they are christian liars ;)

I think there are probably plenty of things which aren't brutal which would make a baby cry...

But so yea... I guess I'm doomed to dislike slayer forever.

Steely Dan throughout the 1970's, more or less churned out the same well produced jazz infused sound, and their level of consistency never really dropped...........therefore a greatest hits/best of is a good way to listen to them.

ELP's Tarkus.

I've tried several times to get into it, but it just reallly bores me. I love most prog epics but tarkus just seems to drag on and onnnn.

The Who are awesome, but there's "Who's Next" isn't as fantastic as everyone seems to think. It has a few of their best songs, but as for the rest, utter crap.

Yeah the Stooges didn't give a ****. It was scuzzy, sloppy and amateur, but it still kicks grass and pulls pussy out of thin air.

The Residents never imposed limits, the word was meaningless to them. They pretty much made up their own rules. The Stooges were too inspired to do that.

Respect a band on their output regardless of what you "feel" are successes and failures . . . not on their capabilities based on some half-****ed set of standarRAB.

I gave it the weekend, and while a few tracks did stand out, the album still just falls flat for me.
I'm going to pick up Carnavas next, being that I've never listend to Silversun Pickups before Swoon.

Honestly, I find Entertainment! to be underwhelming too. It's certainly not sterile (I reserve that term for Stadium Arcadium) and there are a couple of tracks I like, but it sounRAB rather flat to me.

On the topic of funk punk, I'm not quite sure what I used to see in Double Nickels. I do like it but there's a shedload of filler and this is coming from someone who's grossly biased towarRAB anything with nice basswork. How anyone can think it measures up to Zen Arcade is beyond me.

i actually like this more than their later stuff, while it too has some of the same lyrical content and guitar experimentation from Tom Morrello, it seems more metal and guitar based, as well as the bass and drums having a little more prescence. so yea, that why I like it.

This has some the greatest guitar work ive ever heard. It was instant love for and I must say i'd pick Television over the Ramones anyday when it comes to the New York punk scene. It's influence can be traced to modern banRAB like the Strokes and Interpol, with the dueling guitars. I also enjoyed the lyrics which can at times be playful such as on Friction "You complain of my dic....tion" and "if I ever catch that ventriloquist I'll squeeze his face right into my fist."
