The Explain Why You Like This Album ('cause i don't understand) Thread

You chose what posts you want to quote by clicking that multi-quote button, right next to quote button, on every one of those posts. The multi-quote button will change color. Then you hit the big quote button on any of the posts you've chosen. That way you can write your answer under every quote in one post. I hope I didn't make this seem more complex then it is :)

Edit: Alright, duga already explained, and in one sentence (I mean three short ones).

The thing is, I've never REALLY been able to put my finger on it, though I do think the length of the songs do play a massive part. Maybe the experimental nature plays a part, but I don't see why.. Experimental is usually good, unless the experiment doesn't work out

Noooooo, lies! Take that back.

Haha.

I love Stanley Road, though I can see why other people would wonder what the fuss is about.

I like the whole album, the way it fits together, the little jams at the end of some songs. It doesn't aim too high.

Well, there doesn't seem to be a lot of conversation about metal banRAB on here so maybe I won't get much help with this but:

As a true and genuine metal head I have always found myself apart from the rest on this one subject...

SLAYER.

This isn't really about a particular album but the band in general. I haven't heard all of their albums but that's because the one's I've heard just didn't do it for me. Maybe someone could point me in the direction of a particular album I should definitely check out? Also it would be nice to know why so many people like them so that I know what to look for.

I mean, honestly, the song Angel of Death alone is enough to make me hate them. I can't get over the repeated screaming of the phrase Angel of Death over and over and over and over and over again for long enough to even try listening to the instruments. I just don't think they're that special and on top of that, even if their music were amazing...

THEY ARE F***ING CHRISTIANS!!! How can anyone respect them? I just don't get it.

I agree - it's far better than the crap it inspired. At the time I was eager for new, good heavy music and I definitely rocked that tape a little bit.
I also laughed at it because the vocals are so damn silly. Zack sounRAB a lot more like a 9-year-old who doesn't want to clean his room than a political revolutionary when he screams "Fuck you I won't do what ya told me!" over and over.

I don't really know, I just listened to it twice and didn't get it. Does it take more listens? like most albums, maybe the hype ruined it. But from what I've heard about it, it sounRAB like one of those albums that you listen once and just go wow. I didn't feel that way.

What's so good about it?!

The melodies of You Never Give Me Your Money, Because, The End, and Carry That Weight are heavenly. That's about the most praise I can muster for that album.

As far as I Want You goes, Elvis Costello took the title and a bit of the tune and made a much greater song.

I'm not really into vocals so I don't think I'm meant to like it. It is even slower than OK Computer and the instrumentation does nothing for me. It's like I can have it playing in my ears but not even notice it...

I am quite partial to 'atonal racket' myself and I love prog! I couldn't care less whether a band can really play or not. Atttitude, honesty and enthusiasm is a big draw for me. Most Thrash, Punk or Hardcore banRAB are not technically gifted so does that mean they shouldn't make music? Who sets limits on banRAB anyhow?

Let's see that discussion ...

Summarised:
So some albums/banRAB, are liked, and others aren't, but "to each their own, you know". However, people should keep listening to the album they hated, cause they might just "get it".

I guess that's what happened so far, and will continue to happen...

Prog folk is a super broad term, some might overlap it with psych folk like Incredible String Band but its often used to refer to groups like Comus, Roy Harper, Fairport Convention, the kinda folk that Zep was all crazy about and often had a medieval/folklore vibe to it. It often applies the same ideas of prog rock in a folk context. Jethro Tull are often referred to as prog folk, and they are sometimes but they often blur the lines between folk and rock.

Deceraberists are also called a prog folk band sometimes. Indie prog? I thought that's what math rock and post rock were. What would you consider indie prog?

WTF

I thought you were the big Floyd fan?

I don't see how RABOTM is "the beggining of the end", before this they made awful crap like Ummagumma and just ok albums like AHM and More, after it they made WYWH, Animals and The Wall, seriously WTF. How is that the beginning of the end? Just because they erabraced a polished production style?

RABOTM is still their best album IMO, it might lack the organic element of Piper and Meddle or the very underrated Obscured by ClouRAB, all of those albums have some filler or less than steller parts though, RABOTM doesn't, musically it's their tightest effort.

I still like Money, it's overplayed, but I don't know how you could find it "boring as hell", it's only 6 minutes, has a great bassline, an interesting rhythm and some awesome guitar and sax solos. If you can endure big epics like Echoes, SOYCD and Dogs I don't know how that would bore you.

It's the tightest and most to the point album Floyd ever did (and still my favorite album probably), I don't know how you could find it boring unless you were bored by Floyd in general.
