The Expendables

Saw it on Saturday.

Possibly the dumbest and most ridiculously violent film I've seen in a long time.
Certainly the loudest - I felt like someone had been shouting in my face for 90 minutes.

But I really enjoyed it!
It sets out to be the ultimate 80s action flick and succeeRAB totally.

Shoulda been called the execrables. I love big dumb movies - hell - i liked predators - but i like my 80s movies cliches to have a bit of meat on them. Didn't like all the woman-slapping - didn't think that was necessary. Arnie cameo was fun tho!

I noticed there was a bit in the movie when the camera seemed to cut to the next scene a bit abruptly. This must have been it.

The 80's idea was given because Stallone,Schwarzenegger,Willis,Lundgren had signed up.All 80's icons in someway. But let's be honest the only 80's action film icon you have for the whole fim is Stallone.Schwarzenegger & Willis make cameo roles & they don't feature in any action scenes.Lundgren appears for a bit then disappears & then re appears at the end of the film. The rest of the main cast are not 80's action films icons.

What the film offered was no different in what the last Die Hard or Rambo film offered when it comes to action films.Hardly a 80's throwback.

So i take you have never went to see a film & left pretty disappointed?.

Yeah man The Expendables is a mind blowing movie. first i was not so much impressed with its trailers and did not go to the theaters but when i watched it online through Watch Action Movies then i realized that i should go to theaters to watch the movie.

I liked it!

Although Statham had some great action scenes, his little story with his girlfriend was incredibly pointless and my god that ending scene was terrible.

Hopefully it will be as good as you, but it can't be classed as an 80's action flick due to the fact: WE'RE IN 2010!!!!, lol.

But I'm gonna watch it tomorrow and hope for a good watch.

It was OK. I was actually surprised at the lack of action and the scenes where all their enemies just get mown down by the bucketload became yawnsome after a while.

The acting was uniformly dreadful - the scene with Rourke and Stallone was actually painful - and the sideplot with Statham and his girlfriend/her new boyfriend was spectacularly bad.

I did think Eric Roberts was a delight though, totally hilarious and over the top. Also didn't realise Angel from Dexter was in it until he popped up chewing the scenery.

Still, it did what it set out to do, everybody in it realised there was no point even pretending they could suspend anyone's disbelief and it went down with a few bottles of wine.

Utter rubbish, but fairly entertaining rubbish all the same.

That little story was badly done but kind of made sense if you had read interviews with Stallone where he said what the film was about.

In typical Stallone style it's an character pieve like Rocky is. people look at the Rocky films and remember the training, the boxing and him winning and think that is what the film is about.

With this film it's about a bunch of guys who only have each other (they are expendables to everyone else) and even then they don't know each other. Hence the lines about Li being married and having kiRAB, yet they didn't know. Also the bit that Rouke says to Sly about him losing his soul and going into the blackness etc.
With Statham it carried on in that style. She says you are never around, I don't know what you do for a living. She found somebody else making him expendable and equally he wasn't keeping in touch with her making her expendable to him.

All through the film you can see how each of the charcaters were expendable in some form or other.

Yes apparently both were offered parts, as was Kurt Russell, Van Damme apparently wasn't happy with the story and Seagal supposedly didn't like one of the production team.

Good to see most of you enjoyed it, the Stallone/Arnie/Willis scence was indeed great! Being an ex wrestling fan I loved seeing Austin play a good role in the film!

Definitely one for the DVD Collection when it comes out! :)

Watched this the other evening and I got to say I really really enjoyed it, some cracking one liners and Jason was great in his role. Plenty of action to keep the other half amused as well.

Would like to see more of Arnie and Willis in the next one but I guess their pay cheque may be too high for more then a 15 minute role.....

A movie maybe with all the 80's hard ass/martial artists cast as super heroes could be fun ha ha....

Yep, this is the main problem I had with the film. The camerawork and editing were just awful. Combined, they completely took me out of the action and only suceeding in making me feel dizzy. Shame.

looking forward to seeing this film great to see all action heroes together but heard micky rourke is in it can't understand why really would not class him in same league as arnie sly willis
