The Event channel4 9pm friday

Nope, even allowing for your sarcasm you really don't understand. The Event IS original -- in its particular combination of pre-existing story tropes and character elements. There is no series to which The Event is precisely analogous. None. The whole game of "Oh, I see a little bit of Lost, a pinch of 24, a tad of Invasion, a smidgen of FlashForward" is one that can be played with literally anything on TV. Take Lost for example --- elements from Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and even lame 1960's sitcom Gilligan's Island are all there.
 
I'm now officially completely lost, too many flashbacks, I have no idea what is happening anymore :(

Going to keep watching though with the hope of getting back on track.....
 
Heck, Shakespeare basically borrowed (i.e., stole) the whole story for Hamlet from a pre-existing Danish story. What's the old joke about the difference between plagiarism and research? "Plagiarism -- stealing from one source. Research -- stealing from a number of different sources.":)
 
Yes very good. Best 2 hours of Telly i have spent in a long time. But this is American TV and I have been burned before with Lost and Flashforward.

1) the flashbacks etc are trying desparately to copy Lost and Flashforward. thankfully not so bad and still retains the main characters.
2) hope they dont introduce endless new chaaracters and pretend that the filling in their sandwich 8 years ago merits an entire episode and is somehow very relevant to the story.
3) the hospital chase was exactly what made Flashforward cumbersome to watch. A long chase and then nothing at the end of it. It was a 6 min chase through the corridors last night and he was arrested at the door at the end of it.
4) the blurb says it is 95 % thrill and only 5% sci fi. What????. Its bloody 95 % sci fi unless you want to completely forget about what happened.
5) Hope they soon realise that we dont want to know too much about peoples love lives and dont care whether they fulfill their love interests.

but very worth watching now. Top class indeed.
 
It doesn't help that the font used to establish time and place is 24 font, nor that the first real 'life and death' situation of the piece was filmed on (or looked exactly like) the cliff from the final episode of Lost.

Still, I'll stick with it. It's got a decent premise.
