The DS Eurovision Thread (Part 8)

i havn't done one yet - can't think of a subject to do other than like a revote of every nf this year, to find RAB's version of the contest - but that would take forever to hold so i cba :p
plus its not a contest as such...
 
Wait, what?!

Wikipedia time... Mira Awad is actually the Israeli Arab, I always thought she was the Jewish one and Noa was the Arab! I very much doubt Mira would have taken part in that back then (it would have been a big deal for a start) and she doesn't look like anyone on stage whereas Noa looks a bit like both of the backing singers! Her Wiki page says nothing about her being part of it though.

I say I like it for the political side because the Israeli broadcaster effectively cut all relations with, ahem, Ping Pong after they found out they were going to waving Syrian flags around on stage as a sign of peace (don't know if anyone in Syria was particularly moved by their message!). It was far too late for the broadcaster to withdraw the band as they presumably would have got a massive fine given that it was the week of the contest.
 
AAh - I know what you are saying (and Deep Purple never graced the same stage as Katie Boyle as far as I know) but this is the stuff that we listen to for pleasure (for want of a better word) rather than because it's a Eurovision entry, hence my "being personal" comment - some of the ESC entries I have to listen to with the proverbial gun to me head!
 
I'm with you on 1977, even that strange Swedish song about the Beatles "yeah yeah yeah".

The problem with Afro-Dite is that half-way through, like marathon runners they hit the wall and it becomes a breathless shouting match of heaving chests desperate to reach the end.

I have never been more upset at Eurovision than Selma's failure to qualify. I think it's a better song to listen to than to watch though. The instrumental bit in the middle wasn't very exciting and I don't think the song ended with any impact.



Yeah I was thinking that too. I've been thinking about what years the songs could maybe have made an impact based on what was lacking in certain years.

I'm really interested to see how well known all the songs are as well. And i'm not sure which one of mine to pick first.
 
I really, really hope that no-one picked the entry that I want last week. I know they were all cancelled out but I'd still feel pretty guilty if I were to take it away from somewhere else.

But yes, I too am sitting here poised and ready! :D
 
And there goes my 12 pointer! As soon as I heard it, I thought it was a winner - so epic and powerful with some lovely parts to the melody. Great performance too and even the sax solo couldn't sway me!
 
They were sickening. I'd completely forgotten until now, they kept banging on about how they were gonna get married the day after the Semi-Final, whether they got through or not. That would have been a fun wedding . . . :D
