It's funny to read that Eurovision is a topic of debate in some parliaments across Europe. Haven't they got more important things to worry about. 
If Spain continue with the online selection for 2011 then they need to make changes because there are major flaws in the selection process.
Instead of the public having hundreRAB of songs to vote for, a jury should select 20+ of the best songs submitted with the 10 best going through to the TV final. The number of online votes cast for each song should also be kept secret because it keeps that element of surprise for the TV show. For the past few years we've known which couple of songs were going to battle it out to win so it made the NF quite boring. It also stops block voting in the online selection.

I've just remembered the most amazing entry for next week's competition! It's so Eurovision, I almost had to check it wasn't actually a Eurovision entry . . .

The best thing EVER has happened. My Sky+ broke last week, meaning I lost all my saved programmes. I was completely guuted because this meant that I lost Eurovision 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 (including semis). However, I switched my TV on today to find everything has returned! And to celebrate I'm watching the semi final results, one contest after another.
Also, after coming last with nul points back in the first worst semi final, I am quietly confident I will have done better this time.

I'd like some hints as to what songs have been chosen . . . 
Also there's a former American Idol contestant, Sarah Burgess (she was eliminated in Hollywood week in Season 6 - ring any bells?) who has a song sent into the Swiss selection. Not very interesting I know. But the song was written by John Gordon, who wrote Satellite!

There were rumours early on that Mika would be writing the entry. Nothing's been heard of that since, has it? 
There may be some new reality show going in in the ALW slot. Personally I'd much prefer another ALW show and we could ditch SYTYCD. Although that's just personal preference.

I try my best not to like Amy's songs, but I can't help it! They're so catchy!
I could deal with her being our representitive if she just sang and was never interviewed. She's always desperate to give her opinions on EVERYTHING. Also, she's fiercely patriotic so if she ever were to do Eurovision (which i'd be VERY surprised at) i'm sure it wouldn't be for the UK, but for Scotland.

I'd have given it more points if not for the fact there were other songs that I disliked more......unlike others I have no sympathy for Donna, she's a match for her brother in the ugh stakes imo. Crappy song too.

But I'm passionate about Tose Proeski and his music, I mean his Eurovision entry was a right old turkey, he was meant to enter for Serbia & Montenegro in 2003 with Cija Si (which is a much better song) but they had to withdraw due to too many participants.
He made some cracking albums in Macedonian, Croatian and Serbian languages, he was widely expected to have pan European success with The Hardest Thing but was killed in a car crash before its release, he was just 27 when he died
My choice is the best track from that posthumously released album, and it's a damn shame that we won't hear more from him.

At the moment, if a band performs at ESC, vocals must be live but music must be recorded, reducing most of the band (who may have made as much of a contribution to a song as the singer) to the status of backing dancer. Lifting the ban on live music would bring a new dimension to the performances and could encourage into the contest acts to whom miming is anathema.
Against
Logistically, conducing a soundcheck for twenty-four disparate three-minute performances would be a big technical challenge. Also, it would be take longer to set up the stage between performances, leading to a much longer running time for the contest.
