The Crowquill 100

36. Devendra Banhart "Cripple Crow"
cripplecrow.jpg

The album opens with an acoustic guitar that can't help but remind me of Nick Drake but Banhart proves to be anything but a one way train with this album. You have the rocking and quirky Chinese Children, the spanish bossanova Santa Maira de Feira, the quiet and emotional Korean Dogwood. Devendra shows himself to be a versatile songwriter drawing from a well full of influences throughout this album.
Cripple Crow marks a change in Devendra's sound, showing him to be more creative then before and releasing a beautiful and well crafted release.

35. Stars "Set Yourself On Fire"
setyourselfonfire.jpg

"When there's nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire" and then the album opens up with a melancholic array of instruments but then it takes a turn and you hear a more upbeat rhythm. Canadian indie-poppers Stars create an album that takes you on a trip through the various sides of romance. While at times cliche, it never feels cheesy or overdone as they always manage to remain true to the broken hearted and love sick. Crafting songs that goes from quiet reflection to crying in your room, Stars show you that setting yourself on fire could be less painful than falling in love.

34. Tegan and Sara "So Jealous"

This is kind of my ultimate guilty pleasure and I kind of want to put it higher. The music is so cute and precious and probably means more to me then it should. Anyway, Tegan and Sara create cute indie-pop twee folk type songs with adorable voices that make my heart melt. I don't think anyone else will like them much.

All banRAB are just either the singer/guitarist/lyricist/composer/producer/cute one and a bunch of other guys... no matter how 'loved' their work is

Joe Strummer gets all of the attention, so Joe Strummer basically IS The Clash. All of the other merabers could be replaced, and a majority of the listeners would not care.

Every bandmate in any band has a vital role, however, only the frontman gets all of the credit. It's not fair, but who really cares? It should be about the music.

That was the first Smiths album I ever listened to, I can't believe we agree on how good it is. It's also one of the few albums I actually went out and bought.

One of the few albums that I truly love all the songs on, very nice choice for #3.

So I haven't heard any of the first 70 albums he put up there. I have Blonde On Blonde, and Revolver. Great albums. I'm gonna reply with a post of Rolling Stone's 100 albums.

^^^

Been meaning to check them out for ages. Finally got around to it last week , good stuff.
Glad I did it before you wrote this, had I seen the comparison to Hundred Reasons I would have avoided them like the plague :D

16. The Cure "Disintegration"
disintegration.jpg

When I first heard this album I was a little kid and I liked it alot but after a few years of having to listen to 80s music obsessively I drifted away and kind of tuned out whenever my parents would put something like this on. However a few years after drifting out in my teens for some reason I don't remeraber, I think I got dumped or something, I had put on Disintegration because sometimes the New York Dolls just don't cut it.

I was amazed by what i'd heard, I was familiar with the album but for some reason the shimmering guitar lines, soulful vocals and breathtaking lyrics were just enchanting and seductive in a way they never were before. The music itself was something that was amazing to me too even without Robert Smith fronting them they could've still evoked feelings which is impressive and they managed to get me to be able to listen to songs that were over five minutes long, another impressive feat. In fact I think the later half of the album is my favorite and all those songs are pretty lengthy. It became my favorite album for awhile after hearing it that night. In closing: Disintegration touched me more than my father ever did. Yes, that's right, I ended this with an incest joke.

For me it goes Pink Moon (obviously) > Bryter Layter > Five Leaves Left, though i've been warming to Bryter Layter alot lately. Northern Sky is easily my favorite song by him and right-track maybe Santa will give it to you for christmas.

46. Buzzcocks "Singles Going Steady"
singlesgoingsteady.jpg

70s punk band Buzzcocks are one of the few punk banRAB that have stood the test of time with me. Maybe its their catchiness, maybe its their dirty worRAB but something about them is addicting.

45. Sparrows, Swarm And Sing! "O'Shenandoah, Mighty Death Will Find Me"
oshenandoah.jpg

This band has post-rock down, with influences ranging from Explosions in the Sky all the way to A Silver Mt. Zion. This album is a beautiful and extensive trip but there songs being of GoRABpeed length isn't a bad thing seeing as when you get lost in their waves of sound you can't help but want to stay under water for a long time.

44. Van Morrison "Veedon Fleece"
veedonfleece.jpg

I have never heard Astral Weeks or anything but I love Veedon Fleece to death. There are very few vocalists who upon hearing them sing I was completely blown away the only ones I can think of are Patrick Wolf, Antony and of course Van. He has more soul in his left testicle than anyone ever.

43. Grandaddy "The Sophtware Slump"
thesophtwareslump.jpg

Grandaddys second studio album, its obviously Radiohead influenced and one of my favorite atmospheric pop albums. Though theres one thing I will never understand about this album, is all the OK Computer comparisons. They both hold some futuristic sounding sounRAB, though Radiohead more so then this. Yes both albums have lyrics on the similar subjects, but two completely different approaches. While OK Computer is more apathetic, The Sophtware Slump is more like a hug.

Honestly? is obviously the best song on the AF-LP.

I feel bad for not keeping up with this thread but from skimming through there's a lot of good stuff and some I need to check out.
