The Cleveland Show - "Pilot" - Talkback [9/27]

A good thing about this was the self-aware joke that was made about making a "black" show to get black people to watch, a hopeful sign that the writers are aware of a possible pitfall and will try to avoid it. Cleveland intimidating the boyfriend was also very good.

In general it felt like a light version of Family Guy, except less crazy since Cleveland is not stupid like Peter. We all know the cutaway jokes aren't going to go anywhere, but Cleveland Show could carve out its own place if it holds back on those in favor of making it more like a traditional sitcom. But if it tries to be as wacky as FG or American Dad (or as interested in preaching the writers' opinions), it will never break out of spin-off territory. The pilot is actually not a bad start. The question is whether most episodes are like that one or if it gets stuck in the same old formula.

I'm black, and I didn't enjoy this much outside of the first 5 minutes with the FG characters.

A Quagmire spin-off would've been way better

I hope so. The commercials haven't really been doing this show a service if they're trying to show how funny it can be.

But every show deserves a chance.

Better than Family Guy's first episode.

But still quite dull.

I think I'll be sticking with Adult Swim and reruns from now on. FOX is beginning to bore me.

quick recap: everyone loves the bear, most are hopeful/patient, others are tossing another rock in the 'mcfarlane's ego is getting so huge it shall soon appear in a robot chicken parody' boat.

never fear though all you complaints are useless. as i am sure most of you already know, Fox has already paid for a 2nd season. so we have plenty of time to form opinions that FOX can ignore.

P.S. i am not making fun of people's opinions just a snide reference to FOX's handling of the show. either they think it is/will be good. or they have strong faith in the mcfarlane/FG brand.

my opinion is that the show is ok, it can warm up and get better but regardless of reviews, opinions, ratings, money. we are guaranteed 2 years of the show no matter what.

sorry to harp on this but it is so strange to me, for a show that seems so dry, and without a lot of pop.

they probably like the toned down FG atmosphere in black guy form which gives them hope and another mcfarlane show. what can possibly go wrong?

anyways here is to more of the bear!!

For me, the series wasn't exactly attention grabbing.

The episode set out to do what it was intended, explain how/why Cleaveland left.

In fairness I didn't expect the first episode to be good, I expect it to get a bit better part way through the season.

On a random note, the best premier tonight was SURPRISINGLY Titan Maximum.

I'd like to reiterate something Speedy mentioned earlier:

and note that this should be treated as a request from the General Animation mods and will be backed up by disciplinary action if necessary. Thank you.
