The cinema pricing of Avatar

Not every cinema lets you keep the glasses, Showcase have two monkeys stand outside the screen at the end of the movie and take them off you.

Cineworld normally let you keep them and you now get discount if you reuse.

i used to be a manager for Odeon, Virgin, Cannon Cinemas etc , so have a little idea of how things work in cinemas. People are usually surprised to find that the exhibitors actually make virtually NOTHING on ticket admissions. When you take the rental out ( can be over 65% of the ticket cost, VAT(17.5%) plus runni9ng costs(staff wages, cinema bills etc) there is usually nothing left. The fact that a movie is popular and takes a lot of money doesnt actually relate in huge profits from the ticket price. Also Exhibitors are tied into which screens films are shown in, meaning that films have to be played in larger screens even if demand has reduced.

"Rip Off" ticket prices maybe- but it is not the exhibitors who are doing the ripping off. The only way the exhibitors make money is on ancillary sales

the admission price is decided by the cinema chain, however the rental terms are agreed with the distributor. There are various ways this is done depending on the film, these vary but are basically- a straight percentage of the take , an amount per seat in the screen regardless of how many bums on seats, a straight forward rental fee for the film (usually an old film on a special- i used to get a print of The Exorcist for about

I am thinking of going to see Avatar at a showcase cinema tomorrow, any notion on the cost, also are people more likely to behave themselves if the movie is in 3D?
