i used to be a manager for Odeon, Virgin, Cannon Cinemas etc , so have a little idea of how things work in cinemas. People are usually surprised to find that the exhibitors actually make virtually NOTHING on ticket admissions. When you take the rental out ( can be over 65% of the ticket cost, VAT(17.5%) plus runni9ng costs(staff wages, cinema bills etc) there is usually nothing left. The fact that a movie is popular and takes a lot of money doesnt actually relate in huge profits from the ticket price. Also Exhibitors are tied into which screens films are shown in, meaning that films have to be played in larger screens even if demand has reduced.
"Rip Off" ticket prices maybe- but it is not the exhibitors who are doing the ripping off. The only way the exhibitors make money is on ancillary sales
