The Butterfly Effect

Old thread I know but I have just watched this film on DVD and thought it was fantastic so had to comment!! I do advise to watch the Directors cut as opposed to what the cinema audience saw as its much better.... really got me thinking ..... And, was very surprised by Ashtons performance as I have only ever seen him in That 70's Show - he was brilliant.

I *aquired* a copy this week and I have to say it is one of the best movies I have seen in ages. The trailers look great but the movie is better. During the first 30 mins or so I found myself asking lots of questions about it but they all get answered as the movie progresses. Definately not one to miss, I know I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out!

Best Film Ever , I Got Both Versions Of The Film, Tho I Didnt Like The Directors Cut Ending. Its Sad And The Cinema Version Was LoaRAB Better
COS HE GETS TO LIVE AT THE END, RATHER THAN NOT HAVE EXISTED AT ALL :( ,

The original ending was much better in my view, and more emotional. I was shocked to see the new ending on the dvd. Kinda pushes the film a little too far.

Saw this tonight. Review in one word: Brilliant.

Im not usually a fan of Kutcher, but in this he was great. There were a few moments of 'cliche teen movie' in the film, but it is definatly a powerful film.

Some of the above posters have mentioned 21 Grams and Donnie Darko as comparisons - but i must say this film out-does those films. 21 Grams was good in its approach, and after watching this film i thought Darko was definatly a waste of 2hours (until then i thought it was an alright film).

Im not sure if i like this because ive been in a similar situation of "What if i did ____ this way instead of ______?" but then again im sure we have all been there.

Will definatly be buying the DVD, although like others i currently have an OK DivX copy.

Score: 5 / 5

I'd have to agree, after viewing this thread I watched the film too and thought it was excellent. I've never really rated Kutcher much either but this has changed my opinion on him.

I just watched the film and it was really good.

I bit confusing in places mainly at the start, but bits further into it make it all click into place.

I would of preferred a different ending though!

Thinking about it, isn't the end of the movie flawed?

If he said keep away from me to her as a little girl so that nothing he didn't would harm her doesn't that mean her father would of still been an abusive paedophile, meaning she'd end up messed up anyway?

I bought the dvd having seen the original ending and had no clue it was different untill I watched it! I was shocked and I think I prefer the original ending, it seems to be more touching. Both endings are on the DVD though in the deleted/edited/additional scenes special feature.

can someone blank that last post out as it spolis the movie for anybody who may not have watched it. I acquired a copy a few weeks ago and thought it was brilliant, bit slow but once it started going it was great.

Just watched the DVD, I didn't know anything about there being a directors cut. Apparently I just watched it.

I've just been flicking through the deleted scenes and although I can find two alternate endings, they don't seem to make any sense. From reading this thread it seems that there is a missing scene that links the film to the 'Hollywood' ending.

*spoilers ahead*

All in all, I enjoyed it despite a few gaping plot holes but neither ending really worked too well for me. I'd have liked to see the film end before the home movie thing, that just seemed to stretch it a little far for me. I would've been perfectly happy to see our man stranded in a reality where his journals didn't exist.

Thats a good point - never thought of that!

But when her dad was a paedophile, he did it with both of them, and the film already shows how the slightest thing can affect EVERYTHING else so he might have not abused her, still a good point to mention

Jakupe just pointed out to me in a PM that she said she ha a choice to live with her father or her mother and chose her father only because she wanted to stay near Ashton's character, so if she had never met him then i suppose she would have pikced her mother and so been raised in a decen family. So i guess it makes sense afterall. ;)
