The Breakfast Club

The best John Hughes/Brat Pack movie, although it's not quite perfect because Ally Sheedy actually looks better all messy than she does spruced up and the ending feels like a bit of a cop out.

There was actually a fair bit on tension on set because Molly Ringwald got preferencial treatment from John Hughes and Judd Nelson used to tease her relentlessly over it. Hughes almost fired him at one point. Anyway, i think the real life tension between Ringwald and Nelson is the reason why the scenes with Claire and Bender are so gripping. Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall actually dated briefly after this too.

They definately should NOT have done a sequel explaining what happened next. The whole point is that it's best that we should never know. The proposed remake is also a horrible idea, although now i come to think of it the Dawson's Creek episode based on The Breakfast Club was really good.

He made the joke up. There was a punchline for a joke that was supposed to be Bender saying "I forgot my pencil" but no-one could think of a joke that suited that punchline, so Judd made ad-libbed the joke and he fell through the ceiling at the right time as that's all he could think of when they were filming it.

It does sound like an interesting joke though!

Paddy :D

Nooooooo!!!! That's been bugging me for years (probably from the mid-late 80's when I first saw the film - yes I'm so old I used to have it on video!:o) I feel a bit deflated now:( May have to go & watch it again to cheer myself up! (on dvd now, of course!):)

Did you know that they were originally gonna make a Lost Boys 2 in 1989 or so called The Lost Girls which featured Keifer as the only remaining vampire from the first film (if you notice they sorta set this up as his character didn't explode or disintergrate like the rest of his vampire brothers or Max) and his vampire sisters who were gonna return to get his revenge on the Emerson Family, Star and The Frog Brothers for killing their father Max and their brothers?

Unfortunately, it never got made due to them not being able to come up with a suitable script.

Bump!

Just had an email to say my Some Kind of Wonderful is on it's way!:D

So does everyone agree the Breakfast Club is the definitive bratpack film, or do you disagree? If so, what do you think is the film?

I think the new Lost Boys movie is going to be disappointing, are both the frog brothers in it? It'd be ACE if Corey Haim and Keifer Sutherland were in it, then I would definitely be interested in seeing it.

I definately agree. 4 reasons why :

1. It's the best Brat Pack movie in terms of quality. The script, performances and concept are all absolutely superb. It's the one whic has had the biggest influence on pop-culture too.

2. It's directed by John Hughes, the quintessential Brat Pack director.

3. 16 Candles and Pretty In Pink are, basically, chick-flicks while Weird Science and Ferris Bueller are guy-movies,right? The Breakfast Club, however, is a movie that both girls AND guys can love.

4. Ringwald, Sheedy, Estevez (apparently he was the unofficial Brat Pack leader), Nelson, Hall - no other Brat Pack movie contains such a strong cast.

You could argue that St Elmo's Fire contains an even stronger cast since it includes 4 of the above 5 and other top-tier Brat Packers like Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy alongside a third-tier Brat Packer like Demi Moore but i'd argue that, as good as it is, it isn't anywhere near as good as The Breakfast Club, and thee definitive Brat Pack movie should be set in high school not college like St Elmo's Fire was and has to be directed and/or written by John Hughes like The Breakfast Club was and St. Elmo's Fire wasn't.

Both the Frog Brothers are in it. Everyone still alive from The Lost Boys will be in it other than Corey Haim (who is a bloated drug addled mess now) and Keifer (who is too busy whispering and going through the motions on a show 2 or 3 seasons past it's best like 24).

Keifer was busy with work commitments, the producers didn't want Corey Haim, as famously revealed on their The 2 Corey's reality show from last year.

I have a feeling Lost Boys 2 : The Tribe might just turn out to be pretty good. It's amazing that Corey Feldman seemigly hasn't aged a day since about 1987.
