The Box - Out December 4th

Im suprised as the trailer looked ok and it got 4 out of 5 in this months Empire. I miht go and see it to judge for myself!

Saw it this afternoon and, oh dear me no.

Adapted from a short story, that was made into a Twilight Zone episode in the 80's, the movie tries to be a supernatural thriller, a sci-fi mystery and emotional tearjerker all at the same time.

First act, 45 mins or so were OK, I quite enjoyed it.

Then it got very confusing, was very slow at times, had a terrible heavy handed musical score, and really felt like a bad 1950's B movie.

The acting was OK but to be honest the second half of the films screenplay is so muddled the actors can't be held liable for the films problems. It got so bad it started to feel more like a M. Night Shyamalan film (his more terrible recent works) than from the guy who gave us the wonderful Donnie Darko.

I think some people will walk out when they see it, especially if they don't have any loyalty to the director Richard Kelly's previous work.

It does feel like a Twilight Zone episode, which I think is the intention with its creepy music and supernatural stroyline, but an overlong episode and rather pointless one.

The premise offers quite an interesting dilemma.

I mean if someone offered me 1 million dollars to press a button resulting in killing an unknown person in the world, I really don't know what I'd spend the money on.

As a few have already mentioned, Empire gave it a 4 star review & reading it, I think I fancy watching it.

They did also describe it as movie marmite. So you'll either love it or hate it & apparantly if you're a fan of Donnie Darko esque movies, you'll probably enjoy it.

I have D Darko :) on DVD and I must say I was very disappointed in this film.

Starts off with a great story line but it goes off on a tangent, randomness, odd bleeding noses & library scenes, aliens, choose a door & water all over the bed!

Shame really.:(

I wanted to like it but found it to be a bit dull in the end.

Did anyone notice a song in the background at one of the party scenes going on about Joanna Lumley?

Maybe my brain was just starting to rebel at that point.

Saw this last night - left the cinema feeling very "huh - what was that now?"!! There were only 6 of us in the screen, which is quite telling for a film that had only been out a day. Started well....petered off towarRAB the middle....much confusion...then a poor ending!

A shrink after going through what the couple in the film go through. Bloody awful film. Reminded me of needful things at first and then just got bloody stupid. It looked and sounded like a Hitchcock film but with non of the soul. Great premise, badly put together and fleshed out much more than it should've been. i wasn't suprised when it said it was based on a short story.

I also really wanted to like this and have all the original Twilight Zone box sets, but unfortunately I have to agree with all the negative comments. After the button push there was nothing in it that kept me gripped, just bemused. And Cameron Diaz had a really annoying accent. Interesting premise, badly executed.:(

They managed to recreate 1976 well with the orange wallpaper and everyone wearing brown and beige!

I enjoyed the filmed - as far as it went but I felt they left too many loose enRAB, still it was better than the dire Paranoraml Activity!

7/10

Just finished watching this film and I thought it was ok. The premise sounded good and I thought it was a good film up until or the randomness started happening... frequent nose bleeRAB and zombie-like people.

It would have been better just as a suspense thriller, not a science-fiction thriller.

Ha Ha Ha - I said exactly the same thing to my husband. What on earth were the right lyrics?

I thought this was okay - wasn't terrible, although it wasn't sure what genre it wanted to be - supernatural, horror, conspiracy or sci-fi.

I saw it today, must admit I fell asleep for large parts of it! So I guess my mark of 0/10 isn't acrute, but based on the bits I saw I think that is generous!
