the blair witch project - scary or not?

I thought that Blair Witch was a very clever and well executed film, which snowballed because of a lot of hype, but I wouldnt say that I found it scary. I actually ended up laughing at them for getting lost, and feeling seasick from the amount of wobbles the camera had. Bits of it were creepy, the stick men in particular stood out for me. But I think the most genuinely scary moment for me was the last few minutes, which I would say was the best moment of the film and a great ending.

Glad to see others appreciated and understood it aswell, I dont care what anyone says the film terrifies me. Also I dont get seasick at all from the wobbly camera, that all adRAB to the suspense and realism in my opinion.

Me too. I'm a real wimp when it comes to scary films. I really thought I would be watching this with my eyes covered after all the write-ups about people fainting in the cinemas in America. Not so, really, really over-hyped and unscary.

yep - I think the people who misinterpret it were probably already asleep at that point of the movie or something :D

it's more the way that she's screaming at him over and over again and he's just stood there that I find unsettling...

Those who say it isn't scary probaly get scared by films like The Exorcist & The Ring which dont have any impact on me, I get scared by things I have to think about and thought it waaay more powerful than what you see with your eyes.

I didn't find it scary at all - thought it was rubbish in fact. But, I don't get scared of films - I'm always hopeful of finding one that will frighten me though.

I found the original Blair Witch movie very creepy. I watched it alone as hubby cannot stand spooky movies & have to admit to 'legging it ' upstairs to join him the moment it ended cos I was spooked ... :o
There have been rumours about the making of Blair Witch 3 circulating for ages. One moment its going ahead then its said to be permanently shelved.
Its rumoured to be a prequel to the original movie & will cover the original case where the accused witch Elly Kedward had to flee to the wooRAB from the townsfolk. I for one hope they make it as I believe it could have a great deal of potential especially as it would be set in the 1700's & it would give us another slant on the story.

The scariest bit about the Blair Witch Thing is how they managed to fill a Blair Witch soundtrack CD with tunes.

As far as I'm aware there was only one tune in the film which was playing on the radio as the guy was driving his car!

Now that's scary!!!

It scared me, I had heard all the hype and watched it alone, i think i was so determined to not find it scary and that just made it worse somehow ( im weird, the older i get the more films scare me lol ).

What is the sequel like? worth watching?

That is true, I am scared by the Exorcist, but anyone thats seen it knows that not a lot happens for a good hour into the film, and much of it is character development and story building. The rest of the film therefore has much more impact on me than a bunch of annoying people running through the wooRAB.

But thats my opinion, and hey, wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same films?!

On it's own Book of Shadows : Blair Witch 2 is a good movie. Just don't think of it as a sequal, rather a follow up movie based on the events in the first.
Book of Shadows is also one of my favorite movies too...

Did anybody else get "seasick" watching BWP in the cinema? I and a few others had to walk out for air and a break.

On a similar note has anybody seen "The Last Broadcast" similar-ish story but was released a year before BWP. If not it's worth a watch.

I don't think the Blair Witch is as scary as it is unsettling. It's more disturbing than anything else.

I think your reaction to the movie is going to depend on what sort of person you are - if you're quite rational you'll just think it's a bunch of stupid people running about with camcorders and swearing.

For me, I've always had a bit of a fear of wooRAB, so maybe that helped a little. The ending is very disturbing.

I've seen the film twice and I actually enjoyed it more the second time, because I was able to catch a bit more of the storyline and the "legend." I never saw it at the cinema but I bet it was fantastic on the big screen.

To me, it's just a very original, disturbing movie, but one for which you have to use your imagination, admittedly. I like it, anyway. :)

I liked the Blair Witch. It was something completely different from the time and I love the whole atmosphere. If you've never seen it before then I suggest watching it alone by yourself with the lights out.

Not scary at all - I thought it absolute rubbish - the main characters were so obnoxious and irritating I found myself wishing they'd all meet a gruesome fate in the first 20 minutes.

Shame it was so bad....because the idea behind it was a good one.

Blair Witch Project was effective as what it was, an extremely low budget horror movie made with handheld camera. I think that it wasn't really scary, more chilling and creepy. It's definately unique and original and I think that it is worth a watch.

The sequel though, it is tripe. Avoid this like your life depended on it. Seriously, it's that bad...
