The best studio

Which studio do you conisder the best studio in anime out of Japan?

They are many good ones, Toei Animation I always thought is one of the best and I fell I have to mention them. But as far as the best studio today, I have to go with Sunrise.

Their animation quality and the sound and effects are supurb. It doesn't hurt they have a few mecha shows that allows them to showcase that.

Toei animation have always been my personal favorite of mine. I mostly like the style how Toei use in Digimon movies (1 & 2) and One Piece movie 6. Though, there's many mix reaction from fans point of view, but I like it.

Ghibli has the best track record thus far, but they really are Miyazaki's operation. If he ever stops making films, what do they have left? His son?

For general quality over a wide variety of releases, Madhouse is probably the best, though Studio 4C is doing some interesting stuff visually.

It's hard for me to decide. Many of them have put out some truely epic works, but there's still a great deal of crap in their libraries that makes it hard to call one the best.

I could just pick whichever ones put out my all-favorite anime, which would likely result in my choices being GONZO, Gainax and Sunrise, but I don't think that's fair since all of them put out series that I didn't like, as well.

While I've never really thought about it that much, it is hard to choose.

Production IG's responsible for my all time favorite series, Ghost in the Shell: SAC. And while I haven't been able to catch Moribito anymore, what I have seen of it was spectacular. And while I don't really care for Blood+ the animation was great. (IGPX was also great) Truly a powerhouse when it comes to animation.

Madhouse on the otherhand is filled with all kinRAB of goodies. (Actually, Madhouse almost dominates my top 20 favs.) Black Lagoon, Hajime no Ippo, and Trigun just to name a few. I used to only think that Madhouse was only capable of making great character models and didn't really think they were all that great when it came to action scenes but, then I recently sturabled over Hajime no Ippo and the fighting in that is nice and fluid. (And then I had to remind myself about Ninja Scroll) And it remains consistent. (As well as Production I.G. None of that inconsistent garbage that some other companies put me through.)

Sunrise also have a few anime that I like as well.

That's about all I can think of. I think all the other studios that are in my head right now are behind the animation.

The greatest non-Ghibli studio right now has to be BONES. A truly great library from a young studio full of classy original works and high-quality adaptations. RahXephon, Darker Than Black, Fullmetal Alchemist, Scrapped Princess, Xam'd: Lost Memories, Soul Eater . . .

They are perhaps the final studio still willing to take risks creatively and financially, as most of the other studios work on crowd-pleasers or fan-service affairs.

Ah.. I've never seen a Pixar film so I wouldn't know... I was debating whether I should list BONES or not but, decided not to because I've only enjoyed Scrapped Princess and the more recent Soul Eater which I need to get back to watching. (But I do like their animation very much.)

Same thing with Gonzo.

Besides the above, they have a great track record of anime series that are considered amazing and they take many risks within their stories. Maybe not to the level of Gainax (but not to the insane level of Gainax either) however, it all seems to work out for them especially when it comes to their originals.

Plus, any studio gets credit for having some people prefer it's adaptation of a manga over one that actually retells the manga.

You've been in civilization for the past 14 years, right? And on an animation message board, no less...

Go see the double feature of the Toy Story movies in theaters, rent The Incredibles and Wall-E, and then we'll talk.

Kitschensyngk's sig is the MOST HILARIOUS SIG ON rabroad. PERIOD.

But yeah, BONES is the best Japanese studio that isn't Ghibli. BONES is the Japanese Pixar, only hand-drawn, Japanese, and made for TV. Ghibli is the Japanese Classic Walt Disney.

BONES' only significant misfire is Mars Daybreak, kinda the same way A Bug's Life is Pixar's only significant misfire.
