The Actor Who Never Made A Bad Movie

^Same here, V for Vendetta was lost on me. But Natalie does do brilliant movies. What about Scarlett Johansson? If we just forget about The Island...

Will Smith.

This is relative considering he isn't as big as other actors, or hasn't been around as long as more established actors (compared to the likes of Harrison Ford; Warren Beatty, et. al).

However, all of Big-Will's movies have done well. From Bad Boys to ID4 to Ali to Hitch. He's never had an actual flop. Hell, "I, Robot" might have sucked as far as a an adaptation goes... But it was actually one of the top box office draws last summer.

On a side note, even though Chris said this is a subjective topic... And it is...

The thing with Hollywood is that unless you have bomb after bomb... An actor is still going to get work as long as TPTB think they will bring in ticket sales.

The only major element besides starring in a string of flops that stops an actor from getting work is their age. More than anything else. Hollywood is obsessed with youth and marketing to teens. Hence, agism plays more of a role with who is popular and who is not than actual talent.

Once you hit 30, you are viewed as "over the hill" in the eyes of Hollywood because they figure how is a 15 year old going to relate to someone twice their age? It's erroneous thinking because Hollywood forgets that not only is the actor getting older, but so are his/her fans and the fans' taste in films and what they want to see their favorite actor in will also change with age and maturity as well.

Women, actresses, suffer from this glass cieling more than men, unfortunately. Once a woman hits 25, she is considered "over the hill" and "unattractive" -- Even if she looks like Jordana Brewster -- Because Hollywood doesn't care about longevity. They are looking for the next 16 year old Alexis Bedel they can market to Jim and Johnny 14 year old vs. the 25 year old Jordana Brewster. Again, this is erroneous thinking because the fans of a 25 year old Jordana Brewster are going to be maturing themselves as well and are fare more likely to follow Jordana's career compared to the new engenu's career whom they know nothing about.

Umm he wasn't. :look: He is the actor who has never made a bad movie, even if he made only about three.

gotta agree with leo dicaprio every film he's ever been i've loved including his early stuff like 'what's eating gilbert grape' and 'this boys life'. He's awesome in my opinion.

I'm trying to think of character actors as that might be the way to go...instead of thinking of the big name actors....

Also can I just say that this is probably my favorite thread going right now on this board. It's a nice fun discussion that isn't getting mean spirited. I love it!

he wasn't nominated for East of Eden....but definitely James Dean, which was mentioned previously.

We aren't sure if we should count him or not though--due to his short career.

Well thats to the eye of the beholder, see this si a conference between Opinion and Fact. People like Edward Norotn in Americna History X but then people may say oh Fight Club was stupid or something along those lines, in which it comes down to everyones opinion, in my opinion I've loved all of Edward Nortons work.

Why was James Dean eliminated?
He only did 3 movies. But they were all brilliant movies, with great casts and directors. He had very difficult roles and he did amazing jobs in all of them. Not to mention those movies became legendary for all the right reasons: they're excellent and they show the great talent James Dean was.
For those who haven't seen the movies, they were:
- "East of Eden" (directed by Elia Kazan)
- "A Rebel Without a Cause" (directed by Nicholas Ray)
- The Giant (directed by George Stevens)

I'd say Robert DeNiro.
DeNiro never makes bad movies. He's kind if backed off the scene lately, but it looks like he's going to be back in August in Stardust, which looks like a pretty damn cool film. With Deniro and Matthew Vaughn (the director of layer cake) I'm assured to see that.

LOL! Okay, well I didn't see those two movies so.... ;)

For actresses, my pick would be Hilary Swank. Again, haven't seen all her flicks, but the ones that I saw were pretty good:

Boys Don't Cry
Million Dollar Baby
The Black Dahlia
Freedom Writers
The Reaping
P.S. I Love You

Natalie Portman is a good choice, too. Loved her in Where The Heart Is, Closer and The Other Boleyn Girl. Except maybe V for Vendetta. I guess I just didn't get that movie...

Lol, I used to watch it all the time, I knew it was crap.. but I enjoyed the sex scene, LMAO.

It was just silly.

For actress I would go with Kate Winslet, although Im not familiar with every single movie shes EVER done

You really thought donnie brasco was good? i think it was boring.

How about Natalie Portman? All movies i've seen with her is good.. haven't seen too many though

I really like Edward Norton, but I dislike that movie he did with Ben Stiller (can't remember the title). Norton was a priest and Stiller was a rabi and they fell in love with Jenna Elfman. I thought it was pretty bad.
All his other movies were great.

I'm going to have to agree with most of you and say Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Does anyone have an opinion on the ladies? I see it's mostly the men that have been getting all the love :)

The Beach was a good movie. Not as good as the book, but IMO it can hardly be called a bad movie. Leo was brilliant, as always, he gave layers to his character and made you symphatize with him. Though, I believe that the last 45 minutes "ruined" the movie. They were a bit over the top, making you roll your eyes, but overall, I love the movie. Not more than the book, but still, loved it. Leo was a bonus to it. :D
