The 10 Best Animated Movies for (Traumatizing) Kids

A bit surprised South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, Akira, End of Evangelion, and Beowulf aren't on the list. Then again, maybe they're just sticking to G/PG films (though even then, Ralph Bakshi's Wizards should be up there).

Yeah, they're just going with films that are supposedly "family geared." Watership Down will scare anyone, I don't care how old you are. And Cars still freaks me out for the same reason they gave...no humans. How in the hell are they building things?!

How can it mention Roger Rabbit without including Judge Doom? The shoe-dipping scene? Doom getting flattened by the steamroller? The eyes popping out of his face? "I talked...just...like....THIS!"? I think 80% of my childhood nightmares can be traced back to Christopher Lloyd.

I agree that Doom should be mentioned for why Roger Rabbit was traumatizing.

I also agree with all the choices, but Cars. I mean c'mon, it was way more friendly of a movie tha the Incredibles. Little kids wouldn't be freaked out by that.

There's some I would say that are best for traumatizing them.

Bebe's Kids: Speaks for itself, whether it's the movie or game.
Bambi: Let them find out about death when the protagonist gets killed at the end.

Funny... I don't remember Dash killing...how did that scene go anyway? It's been too long.

Another movie I'd add would be Rock-a-doodle...there were some unnerving things in that movie.

Dash wasn't purposely killing anyone; he was just running and trying to avoid them. They were crashing into canyon walls and what not on their own...he tried to get them to crash into each other and everything, but that's the only weapon he has.

#10 - I guess he's right about some things but I felt that his hardships in the movie were as surreal as possible when it comes to Bruce Wayne.

#9 - I don't really remember some of the movie but I do like it and I have to say Dash's scene didn't shock me or anything.

#8 - I know I'm going to take some heat for this but the movie really isn't kid-friendly or realistic, in fact it's kind of sick. But that's all I'm saying.

#7 - Never saw it.

#6 - Meh

#5 - I hope I don't offend anyone but like the guy said if Japan had gotten to Jessica Rabbit, well, let's just say they might as well draw her naked.

#4 - Kind of funny, what DID happen to the humans?

#3 - I see what he means but she fell in love with someone else. Sure Quasy saved her life and she'll be forever grateful but she shouldn't marry him for it.

#2 - My sister read a book similar to this. I'll admit, the pictures almost scared me but I never seen the movie so...

#1 - So... stupid.

I'm not sure how "family-geared" Roger Rabbit was. Other than the fact that it had famous cartoon characters, it's a very adult story. I watched it when I was 6 and it didn't really mess me up nor did it speed up puberty. Of course, this was after seeing three Don Bluth cartoons so maybe those were good primers.

That list is wrong. Those movies are not kid's movies. They include them but they are not exclusively for them."Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and "Mask of the Phantasm" are especially not.

I think that was during a time where cartoons were moving from the "just for kids" era and into the "for anyone" era. The truth is, cartoons are for anyone but in early America they were mostly aimed at kids, luckily the 90s brought us great examples of how cartoons can effect adults as well as kids.

That's true that's true, but what about "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs", "Black Cauldron", "The Last Unicorn", "The Secret of NIMH", "Sleeping Beauty" and of course Filmation's 1987 animated feature "Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night"? now those could traumatize kids as much as some of those spooked me as a youngen back in the 80's especially "Pinocchio" which has this absolutely horrifying scene that scared me crapless when i was 5 seeing this in a theater:

Disturbing wasn't it?

I will have to agree with Watership Down. I saw it on You Tube and it was very disturbing and bloody. Everything else was just stupid. Also what is up with that raccoon one?
