The 10 Best Animated Movies for (Traumatizing) Kids

I pretty much agree with most of the movies here. I haven't seen anything of The Incredibles or Cars, but some of those movies really could be scary. I remember a bit of watching that Batman movie, but I don't think I was scared. I think I was like ten or something. Of course, I've seen the Lion King and I know its based off of Hamlet, but I think that I was only scared during the stampead and the battle between Simba and Scar. Unfortunately, I have seen a bit of the movie The Song of the South. My class saw it just after we studied Reconstruction. Man, I remember my head feeling numb from how horribly wrong and sugarcoated that piece of trash was. What scared me at the time was how a parent wanted Reconstruction to be taught like that. Just plain wrong.

I also agree with some of these films, such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit, aren't really aimed for kids. Most people have the idea that unless it says that adult cartoon, then cartoons are for kids. Anyway, I am surprised that Graves of the Fireflies isn't on this list. Even though I haven't seen it yet, everyone who says they have said that it is really depressing and too painful to watch it again. I'm also surprised that All Dogs Go to Heaven didn't get on this list just because of Charile's dream of going to heck like that. That and the violence, alochol and gambling in the movie as well. Still, it is an interesting list of movies.

Pretty much all of the cartoon characters in the film were fairly well known circa 1947, when the film takes place. While children did enjoy them they were really reaching for universal audiences and this film wisely reflects that.

So apart from the fact that Phantasm wasn't really a "kid's movie"...
Within the context of the movie, Joker didn't "escape unharmed." Yes, anyone who's seen the series after that point knows he somehow survived, but at the end of the movie itself, it's strongly implied that he is killed in an explosion.

It's a Studio Ghibli film but it was directed by Isao Takahata, actually.

I didn't really enjoy the book, but damn, Watership Down looks very disturbing.

The Last Unicorn traumatized me as a kid. The red bull, the carnival...ugh, so freaky. XD Also, there was a movie called Ringing Bell, about a sheep who seeks revenge a wolf, that really scared me as well.

EDIT: Forgot to add a movie called The Nutcracker Prince. I think I saw it on TV once, and that movie creeped me out as well. I don't remember why, though. :P

Watership Down is so disturbing. I mean, the book has moments that are very scary, but seeing those moments animated makes them ten times worse. They don't even include the part that I found most disturbing, which was the scene of the destruction of the warren. Watch that and tell me you aren't scarred for life.

I would also say that the old animated version of The Hobbit. Gollum in that scared the everliving crap out of me when I was a wee one.

According to the Batman Beyond spin-off series, The Joker officially died anther way....

Depending on which version of the film you see Joker either died when he was electrocuted by accident, or when Robin, aka, Tim Drake, shot him. Either way, that's how he officially died.
