Terminator: Salvation - surprised!

the Terminator went wrong went they used a different actor playing John Connor in T3.
I know the T2 Connor had some issues at the time, but continuity is important.
Now we have Christian Bale, thats three different actors playing Connor in just 4 films...
And no Arnie this time.....Grrrrr

As a big Terminator fan, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was very enjoyable.

My ratings for the Terminator films. Im an expert.

The Terminator 9/10
Terminator 2: Judgement Day 10/10
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines 5/10
Terminator Salvation: 7/10

I haven't seen this film - I'm waiting till the DVD comes out !, but I have seen the trailers.
I bet that when John Connor said "I'll be back", all the nerRAB in the audience went mental !

Perhaps, but a PG-13 of the 80s is very different to a PG-13 of today. The censors let all kinRAB of stuff get through now. Violence-wise, anyway.

No, it's awful. The added bits spoil the film, I reckon - I suppose it's all down to personal taste, but I thought the added bits were unnecessary and disrupted the pacing of the film, and I could understand why they were cut in the first place.
Apart from
the scene when she nearly smashes the chip with a hammer.
(put it in spoilers just in case there's someone who hasn't seen it) That should stay in! It didn't alter the pacing because it was in a slow segment of the story, and it added an important element to the film and enhanced the themes of trust and faith.

Maybe so, but that is entirely the cinema's fault for not maintaining their screens properly and not having the proper lighting. The film reel itself is still infinitely superior in quality to BR/DVD/SkyHD (and i say that as someone who doesn't count pixels. It is quite clear to see that the picture/sound quality of a properly exhibited film is better than the home releases).

I go to Cineworld in Sheffield and other than the odd scratch on one of the screens, i've never had a problem watching a film there, Digital Screening or Film Reel. The sound is perfect too. VUE on the other hand is appalling from what i can remember, the last film i saw there sounded like it was barely in 2.0 Stereo, nevermind 5.1 surround sound.

PS: I swear i don't actually work for Cineworld, lol.

He is in it, albeit briefly (his face, circa 1984, is CGI'd in).

And as i understand it they couldn't really have used Edward Furlong for T3 as he was pretty much constantly high on drugs at the time. Apparently he's better now though, he was in CSI: NY last year for a few episodes. But still, when you look at Furlong now he doesn't exactly look like the saviour of humanity. At least Bale seems badass.

I liked that. And what did you expect? Just hunter-killers?

Why not? This was relatively early in the war. Humans have submarines today, and it's unlikely they'd all be destroyed the instant Skynet awoke. Nor would Skynet control them. Humans would surely have lots of assets.

Presumably the terminators Skynet sent into the past left messages for the future Skynet in case their mission failed.

Marcus was too-good an infiltrator. He took the human side for real and betrayed Skynet. It's a basic risk when you build them out of human parts instead of using reliable machines.
I thought it a lot better than T3. One problem with T3 is that it's basically a remake of T2. It doesn't add much. It's an Arnie terminator versus a more advanced terminator, again. The main difference is that the new terminator is a girl.

I liked T4 partly because it wasn't just a remake. It was as different from T2 and T3 as Aliens is from Alien. It moved the story forward. It had a different style. At the same time I felt it did belong in the Terminator franchise because
it continued the themes of humans becoming more robotic and robots becoming more human. This time we had an entity who was genuinely confused about whether he was machine or human. Some parts of the story reminded me of PK Dick, which is a good thing.

That said, it wasn't a great film, especially towarRAB the end, but it was a much better attempt than T3.

Some cinemas just don't know how to run their equipment. I've been in cinemas where they've positioned their surround sound speakers directly opposite each other and pointing squarely at one another. For anyone who doesn't know, this has the effect of making the speakers cancel out each others output. It's also not uncommon for the auditorium to be so badly designed that the sounRABtage completely collapses if you are not sitting in the perfect centre.

Same goes with picture. Projecting film isn't as simple as plonking a Blu-Ray on a TV. Heck, anyone who's tried projecting a Blu-Ray using front projection knows that even that is a work of art. Bad screens, poorly calibrated projectors and bad lighting all add up to poor pictures. For professional outfits, these cinemas should know better.

As for the film, I bloody loved it! It was simple, good fun. I liked Bale as Connor, but at times his Batman voice was way over the top. Right at the beginning, after he crashed the chopper, he really sounded like he was demented the way he spoke his lines.

Best part of the film was near the end, when Connor is looking for Kyle, but enRAB up encountering someone else entirely. Oh, how I smiled like the gay little fanboy I am :P

i really enjoyed this movie also. the franchise perhaps should have finished with the conclusion that was T2 - to me T1 was the perfect film with the perfect sequal. which had a perfect ending.
I have always loved James Cameron's work.

however - i love the terminator films - and have been hungry for more. and T3, T4 and SCC are nothing compared to the original movies - they are still enjoyable to me.

well - we laughed! not that it was funny. and the bit where Kyle says "come with me if want to live". was a nice, if effortless touch.

i went mental when we saw Arnie's face plastered on Roland Kickinger's head, even though it looked crap and the loud Terminator theme signature music blasted out!!!

we just needed Dr.Silverman in a scene somewhere and we'd have been squealling!

This movie appears to be a much bigger hit overseas than in the U.S. & Canada.

While it's not considered a flop in the U.S. (it will make a nice sum at the end of its run), it is struggling a little at the box office - something no one expected from a "Terminator" film. I think I read that ticket sales are down 50% from last week which is quite amazing considering the advertising blitz and franchise name.

I haven't seen this movie yet. I want to but I would rather wait until it comes out on DVD.

i saw it last night and still buzzing about it! personally thought it was on of the best films i have seen in years. and even much better then star trek, which i also enjoyed.

it was so much better then i thought - over the last couple of years, i have been following the development of the film - and just assumed it was going to be bloody awful. but - i am pleasently suprised and very much enjoyed it.

The action scenes were really good too, even though it seems ripped off of Transformers, particularly the harvester bit and the Terminacycles bit. I think McG is kidding himself if he can't see how similar it seems in places...

QUOTE]

i thought that, particular when they had that big robot Eel monster on the table - a total echo to the scene where they have the robot's severed tail in Transformers.

To be honest i thought it was pretty awful, kinda obvious McG sucks balls after that s***tfest and I'll steer clear of anything he or those wroters are involved in.

I just saw Empire of the Sun the other day and was looking forward to seeing Bale again but I had to walk out about 1 hour 45 mins in, I kept hoping it was going to get better but then i realised at 2 hours long there was not enough time left to improve.

The marcus character was compelling at times and Bale just didnt seem to gel with his connor role, but to be fair that was down to the writing, whoever wrote that 'rousing' speech where connor implores that no one should attack skynet so he can 'protect our future' shouldn't even be allowed to write for sesame street, it was so bad it was actually hilarious.

One good thing was that previously I was un sure of star trek, I liked the movie on its own but wasn't sure if they should have really hijacked the story for their own reboot, but now im comparison to Salvation its like a shining star in my eyes.
