So i printed up flyers and went out on the the street and rang peoples door bells and told them what it was all about but almost no one seemed interested and only 2 out of 50 were interested.

I don't see a question here. Some good things to consider: competitive prices, start with people you know, say you'll donate a portion to charity (and then actually do it, lying is bad), get a friend to partner with. I hope this helps with your problem.

And your question would be.....?

If you're asking if this is a normal ratio, I'd have to say probably. Many people are trying to save money, and so do the work themselves, or they already have someone they know & trust to do it.

If you can get some work going with the two prospects, then do so. Word-of-mouth is the BEST advertising; if they like the work you do, they'll tell their friends and maybe you'll end up with more work than you can handle.
