Tech Spec Tank Grips/Stomp Grips?

As most of you know, body and weight control is an important element of riding, whether it be aggressive/performance riding or casual riding. The only way to relieve ones arms from putting pressure on the handlebars is with your lower body strength. Unfortunately, the only surface our thighs can grip is that plexus polished and waxed gas tank! One issue I found is that my body tends to slide forward or backward depending on the track/canyon (example turn 3 at Streets of Willow body tends to slide forward).

If you had tank grips, you'd be able to grip the tank with your legs, and as a result improve the overall control of your body position, weight position and posture which in turn results in a smoother ride. Not to mention, less fatigue since your not giving uneccessary feedback to the bike.

With that said: Are tank grips necessary/beneficial?What are the pros and cons? Also, I haven't seen tank grips applied on any of the top WSB or MotoGP bikes (although I think Lorenzo's bike has one)?Any feedback would be appreciated.

I find the tank pads help me. Especially during hard braking where I can really pinch into the tank to keep from sliding forward and to keep my weight off my hands/handle bar.

I have Stomp Grips. I used it on my ZX-10R and I went ahead and added them to my 848. I found that the black ones which I used on my ZX-10R seem to be a bit stiffer than the clear I used on my 848. As a result, I have wear on my leather pants where the left side is worn pretty well through and the right is showing signs of wear.

Necessary? No, but it will help you squeeze the tank during braking and being leaned over. Only con I can think of is aesthetics. You don't see them on WSB and MotoGP since their bikes are ergonomically modified to the rider whereas our bikes are just standard and made for the masses.

Did you get rearsets? Having the pegs higher up makes it easier to get the knees on the sweet part of the tank.

I heard a lot of good things about the Tech Spec tank grips. They come in two styles: snake grip and high fusion.

Yes. I have acculign rearsets and it's adjusted so that I'm able to lock my knees against the tank just by doing a calf raise. But, like ZX mentioned I have an issue with sliding forward against the tank do to hard braking before a turn. Another benefit I see in having the tank grips is being able to protect the family jewels.

Are tank grips necessary/beneficial?Not necessary.. But very beneficialWhat are the pros and cons?Look like shit (stomp grip) But work awesome Also, I haven't seen tank grips applied on any of the top WSB or MotoGP bikes (although I think Lorenzo's bike has one)?I've noticed that alsoAny feedback would be appreciated. The Stomp Grips work awesome, but look like hell. Well to me any way's.. The Tech grips don't look as bad, some even look pretty good. But are not as effective as the Stomp. Tech snake works Ok.. Haven't tried the Hi Fusion yet..

I just put the Tech Spec on my bike yesterday and the difference is amaza-zing! Then I threw on the impossible to find, no longer made ducati race seat and it feels like my jeans and leathers are literally glued to the bike.

With jeans I'll get off the seat to move around and the pants fabric stays stuck to the neoprene. I'll put up some pics of my grips in a few minutes....gotta grab the camera.

That's got to be one of the sweetest 848s I've ever seen. You fixed that bike up nicely. Yeah.. and that tech spec tank grip looks great on that white tank. Very nice!

Thanks for the feedback. I never really liked the look of the stomp grips.

I always wondered about the Stomp grip design. It felt a little too hard for me.
