TCM/TCMHD & CNNHD added to Bell TV line up

Depending on how much space Bell is willing to allocate to a channel, a reduction in resolution to 480p may actually look better than if they allocated the exact same bits to a 720p or 1080p channel. I would rather a slightly softer stable image than a high-res image macroblocking all over the place. At any rate, Bell overcompresses the hell out of everything. My 480p DVD's look better than even Bell's 720p programming.

Carrying the SD and HD versions of the channel is a necessary thing until they swap out all the non HD-capable receivers.

Yeah, I have the full dual sat setup. The rep told me he was sitting right in front of a wide open company receiver and 1578 doesn't exist.

Is news and learning 1 a requirement to get this then? Because I don't have that, but I'm trying to avoid SD channels. Why would i want CNN SD and CNN HD. CNN HD should be part of an HD theme pack.

TCM is on analog cable with other specialty stations here. That is a prime spot since it reaches almost everyone that has cable. Canadian satellite is different since the basic package is almost all OTA network and public service stations. Just about all the specialty stations are an add-on to the basic package. (I think Bell throws in a couple of youth oriented specialty stations.) I doubt the CRTC would even let Bell put TCM in their basic package since there are no corresponding Canadian stations to fulfill carriage rules.

I haves N & L 1, there also is not a free preview label on 1578. Note sure if you can add CNN SD for $2.50 but then you might be able to get the HD channel? There is only 2 or 3 channels in a $5 HD theme pack anyway.

Anyone notice any sound skipping issues on TCMHD last night?
It would cutout for a second every so often.

I get TCMHD, but CNNHD, channel 1578 does not show up for me. Do you have to subscribe to the SD version of CNN to get the free preview of CNNHD?

I love TMCHD, but the clipping that started in the past week continues through tonight. It makes watching the movies unbearable. I'm glad to hear it's a TCMHD problem, however, and not a PVR problem.

another rep says it's available with no requirements but can't figure out why i'm not getting it. LMAO... typical BELL support.

Oh, he checked with a sup, to get CNN HD I need to pay $8 for news and learning 1 :) what a deal. No free preview, not added to an existing HD theme pack... what a joke!

just got off the phone with bell tv because i wanted to upgrade my programming, and i ask for fun, what theme pack tcm will be on, and the rep. told me the premium movies packages. i hope he didn't mistaken by telling me that.

I called Bell back and once again went through the standard checklist to no avail. In the end what needed to be done in my case was they had to remove my News & Learning theme and add in back in and the instant that was done CNNHD showed up immediately. The lady said CNNHD will be in free preview until March and when I asked what theme pack it would be placed in she checked and there was nothing she could find yet.

Have you guys noticed TCMHD doesn't quite fill the screen on the sides?
Almost like it's a 15:9 ratio. Every other HD channel fits perfectly. I know it's not screen geometry because the set is calibrated.
