Tattoos: Culture or Condemnation? Argument Paper Thesis?

I have to write an argument paper for my Logic class, and I chose to use the controversy over tattoos. For example, tattoos in the workplace. I'm having problems with being able to expand on this though, I know people have very strong opinions on both sides of the fence - those who are against tattoos vs. all for them. I'm in the latter group; I have multiple tattoos all over my body, however I've never had a problem finding a job due to them (I've been a receptionist in a Dr.'s office, a waitress, bartender and now student teacher. My brother is on the opposite side; he has full arm sleeves, even one hand covered in ink, and although he has two Masters degrees he cannot find work in his specialized field. I plan on writing about the history of the tattoo, from the Bible to now. How what once was reserved for sailors, bikers and inmates are now appearing on CEO's and kindergarten teachers. There's plenty of information on their evolution in society, but I'm not quite sure how to turn it into an argument paper. I'm also just looking for ideas too I guess. Any help is nice :)

A tattoo isn't everything. When looking for a job you must present yourself in a fashion that will capture their attention without showing the tattoos. If you have them the decent thing to do for a job interview is to cover them up, when hired ask about their policies on tattoos in the work place. There are some companies where they think that tattoos might scare off their clientele. If you know that they might not approve or if you have a feeling that they might not then cover them. It's respectful.

I think that society has put a biased opinion on people with tattoos. Some women that have them you would never know, same with some men. You can't always judge a book by it's cover even though that is what societly has told us to do from the very beginning.

People getting tattoos know the risks that are involved. They know that they might be regected for jobs, they know that people will make nasty comments about their tattoos and they know that there will always be people that will admire them as well.

I think it's terrible that someone would choose to have someone work for them that is less qualified because they have ink...rather than someone that has ink and could easily hide it...but because they didn't they got turned down.

Those are just my opinions on that subject. I love tattoos and always will, but that is my choice to love and have them. I am also not the type to judge someone else just because they don't share the same interest as me.

Good luck on your paper!
