T3 Quality Issues

Hi, i own a T3 and love using it as an iPod. After a fatal bug using the Palm's Universal Wireless Keyboard, Palm Customer Service replaced my dead T3 by anohter one, looking like a brand new.

The keyboard issue fixed, i was back in business. Until i tried to get some music trough my earphone. The built-in speaker would work, but not the earphone.

I was just finished with two (2) Service Repair Order (SRO) that deprive me of my T3 for six (6) weeks out of the past two (2) months, and i would have to send it over again for repair. Like everyone else, i have better things to do with my T3 then sending it out for repair. Guess what Palm's Customer Service answered to that; 'There's nothing more we can do, just send you T3 for repair'. So it took 2 months before i could find a three (3) weeks period slow down to send my T3 for repair.

Now there's no way you can guess what happened... they ran out of replacement devices! It's unbelievable

Now they tell me 'We will provide you necessary assistance to resolve your issue', and what are they doing... nothing

I have a question for you now, DOES PALM CARE?

Hi, i own a Tungsten T3, and using the original stylus, and it sometimes feel like i'm scratching the screen. Like the drag of a sharp tip grooving the surface of the screen.

I first noticed it after a few months of use, as i don't always have a protective film covering the screen. A scrattchy spot was forming, especially over the Graffiti area. Since Palm had to repalce my T3 after of a fatal issue concerning a Palm keyboard, i also got back on a brand new screen again.

That's when i realised that only after a few weeks of use, the scratches were appearing again. I started to look closely at my stylus tip, even taking close pictures and magnifying then on my PC. It might not be really clear, but there seems to be a small chip of metal peeking on the tip of the stylus.

Palm tells me they're not responsible for those kind of things, it's not covered by the warranty. So they ask us to use the stylus to prevent damaging the screen, but it turns otherwise. Have someone noticed that. Email-me to take a look at my pictures.

Hi, i own a Palm Tungsten T3 and an Universal Wireless Keyboard, also from Palm. It works perfectly in all applications i've got installed. No more than a few days after installing the keyboard software, i couldn't tell why, but my T3 stopped responding, even to a hard reset, showing nothing but a white screen.

Called Palm Customer Service (PCS) for help, because even my PC would not recognise the USB device as my T3 was sitting in it's craddle. Tried a couple more resets suggested by the Palm's technician, it ended up in my first Service Repair Order (SRO). My T3 was dead and I had to send it over at Palm repair facileties. They had to replace it. It took three (3) weeks before i got it back, looking like a brand new. That reliefed me because the screen was starting to show a lot of scratches, especially on the Graffiti area...

Still there was no note or comment in the package, explaining what happened. So what could have been avoided happened...

As i was doing maintenence in my T3, i noticed an application related to the keyboard, and tapped on it. Guess what happened... dead again. But that time i knew what caused it. So i call back PCS to ask if there was an issue concerning the keyboard software on a T3. And yes there was... so they asked me to send my T3 for a replacement, and i was good for another three (3) weeks without it.

Hopefully they had released a new version of the keyboard software by the time i got back my T3. Taking extra care not to get back in trouble again, i started a clean installation of all the applications on my T3. Now it going perfectly, on the software side at least.

There lack in quality control costed them two (2) T3 devices... and a lot of my time and satisfaction.

Hi, i own a Palm Tungsten T3 which i carry in my pocket all the time. No more than two (2) months after i got it, i noticed that i had lost three (3) of the screws securing the case. And before i could thighten the last one remaining, it was gone. It started to get annoying as my T3 would turn off by itself just by switching hands.

So i went back to the store where i bought it. I was refered to Palm Customer Service, where i explaned the situation. They decided to send me, by mail, the small screw's, allowing a few weeks for delivery delay. Fine with me...

A month later, still haven't recieved nothing, so I called back. They said they already sent some... but would send it again...

It ended up taking four (4) calls over three (3) months before i recieved the screws. No note on special care putting them back, nor excuse found in the package. No communication at all explaning what took so long. So i just put them back on, no special care and never had further problem... regarding the screws.

That left with the bad feeling that Palm didn't care much about me, and the trouble they got me in.

Hi, i'll tell you what i've gone trough with my Palm Tungsten T3, since i bought it, merely a year ago.

First of all, i'd like to say that i really enjoy my T3. It as incredible capabilities, and it's got me addicted quite fast. The sad side appeared when i had to send it for repair at Palm facileties.

I could deal with this at first, but now it's the third time i have to send my T3 for repair due to poor quality control. And as if i could run out of luck, they're running out of replacement device. They tell me that i'm an isolated case. Some kind of bad luck, but i dont believe in bad luck. I believe that in life, you get what you deserve, you just have to deal with it. It's cruel, but that's the way it goes...

Now let's focus on Palm. I believe that they've put to market a magnificent product, with is the Tungsten T3, at a magnificent price too. So we should be entitled to a magnificent experience. The problem is that Palm seems to have done things the Microsoft's way this time, which is 'Launch it now, fix it later'

So figuring on the Service Repair Number's (SRO) assigned to me from november 2004 to febuary 2005, there would have been something like a million repairs authorised by Palm over a four (4) months period. That bring's me to believe that i might not be such an isolated case.

All i'm asking you is to raise you voice, feed this thread and together, let's have Palm face the music.

p.s. I've started four other threads concerning different issues i've encountered with my T3. Feel free to comment, or contact me [email protected]

You bring up some valid and repeated points about the lack of Customer Service that you are experiencing with regards to your T3 and PalmOne in all of your posts.

This forum will try and be helpful but you may want to consider that posting so many "topics" that are essentially the same discussion will not endear you to the members of this forum.

We feel your pain but PalmOne may monitor this web site but it will have no more impact on fixing your plite then emailing PalmOne tech support about the issues you raise.

Most discussion forums function in a similar manner - they are created to have user's share information and are not a platform simply to "complain" about a manufacturer. If all manufacturer's had outstanding customer support - there would be no need for these forums to exist.

I'd recommend that if you have a software issue that you can not resolve then by all means post the issue and we will all try and help but to simply list hardware complaints that can not be resolved unless the unit is exchanged to P1 will not be solved here.

By all means share your experience and someone here may be able to assist with a similar fix but try and list them in one thread to faciliate easier reading and response.

Now, my suggestion would be to contact Customer Service via their 800 number and request to talk to a supervisor. They will usually do more than the first person you talk to. And by all means keep a log of when you called, who you talked to with the specifics. Then if you need to escalate it you'll have a record.

Also, contact P1 during regular M-F business hours. The people who are there 40 hours during the week are much more likely to assist you then a part time weekend or evening person.

Wasorar,
I have merged your separate posts into one. As Moose wrote, multiple posting all of these problems will neither endear you to the members here or get any action out of Palm.

Some of the things you've written about, like the loose screws, have been posted here many times and another post is unlikely to change things. Your issue with the stylus is also fairly common in that the Palm styluses are produced for the smallest cost possible and aren't always perfectly smooth. It seems, though, if you went to the trouble to take almost microscopic pictures, you could have just used a bit of abarasive and buffed up the tip. The are also many aftermarket styluses that are made of materials that are less likely to scratch.

I'm not saying you shouldn't post your complaints here but, as Moose wrote, you should also spend the same amount of energy bringing up these issues with Palm directly.

...is how did he manage to post each thread just a minute apart from each other? That's some fast typing.

Unless it's a function of the various and similar threads being merged into this one.
