Symbian^3 Delayed

Actually it's about accurate scheduling of product development and test. Some one is driving unreasonable schedules and it's embarrassing them left and right. This needs to be fixed.

I thought the whole 'Cameraphones will make DSLRs obsolete' was taken out of context by some other site?
Anyway, its a shame its been delayed but rather have it working properly than have it rushed out like S60v5 was. At this point S60v5 is finaly stable but its taken it over a year to get that way.

nokia doesnt need to have an iphone os, no one does, bb dont , android dont and web o.s. which some say is the best has gone no where, what they need is a revamped one for sure, with the right hardware and stability.
The n95's os was nothing to right home about, but the device itself was amazing to many, give me ram, resolution, fast processor and the 12mp camera with xenon im good. :buddies:

You're absolutely right. However, given a product designed for the global market as well as developed globally, that makes product planning and project management quite a challenge.

I'm sure that market also influences, if not dictates, their product planning and market forecasting. Perhaps they are trying to move away from the first-to-market mentality (or even second-to-market) and move towards the get-the-product-right-on-release mentality.

If anything, I hope Nokia is learning from their failures. However, I would not expect the ship to turn direction overnight.

Then again, this is all conjecture on what drives Nokia. My opinions are based on what I have observed and what I have experienced in my profession.

I see your point, somewhat, but this reminds me of the argument about mp3/media players a few years ago.

The Cowon/Creative/iRiver fans would recite their respective feature spec sheets in comparison to the iPod, say, the 5th gen prior to the Touch. And yet the iPod still reigned around the world, and I'm speaking here as a Creative Zen Vision M, iPod nano and Zune 80 owner.

(Creative had a hit with their Vision M, but I'm not sure what happened to them. It's as if they said: "Well, that's it. This is as good a player as we can make, so what do you say we pack it in fellas, eh?" And they disappeared from further competition.)

People need to learn that all the features in the world won't matter if the basic day-to-day useability isn't simple/intuitive/a pleasure to use.

What i said was they need to REVAMP FOR SURE it does not have to be the iphone but something we can use, thats why i mentioned the other os's they arent the iphoen either but they work well.
We need to get more intuitive, less clicks but more stable and have the ram and processor behind it, and lets be fair Nokia is still the King in terms of market share and sales, where is iriver and creative zen were trying to dethrone the King (ipod).
:buddies:

Sure, sales volume is fine, but if your margins are razor thin, then you can still lose to others whose volume is lower but margins are much, much fatter. Also, going down market eventually destroys your brand.

Other than Nokia, you want other good examples? GM. Dell. Tommy Hilfigger.
Just so you don't think I'm biased against a European company because I live in New York (and of Greek descent, BTW).

where in ny im in queens, and i am fully confident they will release a highend device, i rather wait and have it done right.
p.s. ipod was always lower end next to zen and zune before ipod touch and apps ect...., it still was biggest seller.

This just shows that Nokia is still stumbling around. If I'm not wrong I remember someone from Nokia saying that one of their new goals was to reduce the timetable between announcing and releasing. :disappoin

If software is their main obstacle right now, then remove the obstacle by releasing a good piece of hardware with Android in it! Then Nokia will be able to compete with HTC, Motorola, DeLL and so on based mainly on their hardware.

They could even hire that kid that dual booted Android on the iphone to do the same for them.

As it is, no matter how much RAM or Megapixels they offer, no one will be happy because of the weakest link, their software 'master plan'. Scratch it! Solve the pressing problem and develop S^3, S^4, S^5 in the background.

If not, Android, Apple and Win7 will grab all the developer's hearts before S^4 is ready. By then Nokia will have to spend a lot of money to gain them back.

Nokia probably has someone advising them the wrong things and making a lot of money selling them short.

I know the delay for Symbian^3 is painful but they made the choice to have backwards and forwards compatibility with it instead of skipping it and going straight to Symbian^4. I'm glad that they chose to let Symbian releases slide instead of letting MeeGo slide as that will be their new flagship. If they hit a "home run" with MeeGo and Intel's netbook MeeGo takes off then the brand will do well and that will position Nokia well for the future.

Because their entire business and marketing strategy to this day has been on doing the exact opposite and it worked for them for many years. They thrive on a loyal customer base that thinks that the more they suffer to acquire and maintain and use the device the more intrinsically valuable the product is.

yes I know. sr1329 did not specify. needless to also mention though that nokia smartphones too than anyone else. i somehow suspect that not all of them either the kind of masochists sr suggests... :)

this makes me feel even better about my nexus one purchase. i'm ready to jump back on the symbian train as soon as they start pumping out the new OS. but for now i'll explore android.
