Swedish Wallander Series 2

That potential romance has been on the carRAB for some time and it has at last happened. Pity it led to the murder of the poor sister though. Another good episode with a horrible heartless female villain.

Also, for Wallander fans, there's a documentary on BBC4 about about writer Henning Mankell and his detective character Kurt Wallander. It's going to be shown at midnight on late Thursday night/Friday morning and there's more details here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00fzbmt

One for recording on the PVR, I think, to watch later at a civilised hour.

I would disagree. The first series was anything but run of the mill and to compare it to the doddery old warhorse Frost is somewhat insulting. The plotting and characterisation are leagues ahead although I

Svartman seems to me to be getting disillusioned with the job and becoming lazy,.........playing games on his phone when he should have been guarding the guy in the hospital, moaning about having to check something out during his lunch break, maybe the shooting in the wooRAB has bucked his ideas up a bit:D:D

Didn't like Isabelle at first but now prefer her to Pontus, think he wants all the accolades and promotions without doing the hard graft.............seems to have his own bed in the local hospital too:D:D

That's what I love about it too M99, things that don't matter get talked about, it's just 'normal'. I'm just totally addicted to this show.............in fact it is in the top 2 of my all time top 10 tv programmes:D

It's only a few weeks since Isabelle was badly beaten up by an intruder in her flat who jumped on her as she came out of the shower. She was blackmailed that her little sister would be killed if she gave evidence. Not surprisingly she resigned from the force in shock.

Fortunately she managed an instant recovery and by the next episode was as bright as a shiny new button, with no sign yet of PTSD.

Last week Pontus was shot at about 25 times from close range. Luckily the Russian hit men were both terrible shots and only hit the target a few times, including one in the neck, but Pontus's powers of recovery, both physical and emotional are super-human. He was as chirpy as a cricket this week and more bothered about his dissertation than his bullet wounRAB.

I cannot believe that such empty characters as Pontus and Isabelle - who were obviously cast for their looks rather than their acting ability - would feature in an UK crime show. Even Dixon of Dock Green gave us characters with a bit more reality behind them.

Linda and Stefan were much more interesting characters, with a proper story arch, and decent actors.

Glad I'm not the only one to have noticed as I was beginning to think I was imagining it!
One thought my husband had which is they probably filmed it over a long period as each ep is longish. Perhaps they had a break half way through and it was then she started to fill out?
Maybe she was so depressed they put her on steroiRAB? She looks puffy rather than fat. So tragic, whatever happened. You can sort of see the sadness in her eyes I think - not altogether acting...

Never knew Kurt was so fit- diving into the water twice and swimming to rescue the girl, then from the boat to the shore. Then running along sand dunes with his wet clothing. . .:D

I felt 'the chase' at the end was a tad long, but I still really enjoyed the show on the whole, as i have every episode.

Hi. I was just reading back through the earlier comments about how the 'look' of the first ep of series 2 seemed different to the previous series.
This could be that 'The Revenge' was made for cinema release in Sweden and i believe subsequent episodes are the usual 'made for TV' ones,so it may return to the look we're used to from series 1. (I haven't seen from episode 2 onward yet, they're building up on my sky box!)

Also the chewing gum thing. I doubt it's to do with producers trying to make Wallander look cooler,i'm thinking it's just a reference to his changed character (new home, new pet,no daughter around...maybe he's quit the smoking as we know he tried previously and it was nicotine gum?!)

I very much enjoyed 'The Revenge',but I really miss Johanna Sallstrom....

Yes I heard...she clung on to a tree while holding her daughter apparently. Yes you look at her in the series and think of her family and wonder why:confused: But suicide is like that, had a friend who committed suicide, most gregarious lad you could imagine. full of life.......BUT he left a note saying he just did not enjoy life

anyway happy days! the suns shinning:)

Contrast and compare?

You say Branagh's performance as Wallender was a tour de force, I countered with a rebuttal about his actorly prowess.

You accuse me of invoking an old chestnut, I accuse you you of being blind to his shortcomings in this role.

We both seem to agree the Swedish version is well worth watching.

I have checked the 7 day listings on Sky Guide and it says in the final episode next week that the prosecuter (Elena, I think) puts herself in danger by prosecuting someone with powerful connections.

I wonder whether Kurt will win her affections by coming to her rescue?

Thanks for the theories on the gun but I understood why Leo knew about it and the motive - what I didn't understand is why Kurt apparantly did not suspect that a Police officer had killed Patrik even though he knew the gun was a Sig Sauer. As you indicated, maybe he did realise but was keeping his investigation discreet.

Him and Isabelle (the substitute for Linda) might just as well have been played by dummies made of of ballistics gel given the amount of times they were shot

 I hope that Krister Henriksson would do the third series as it just wouldn't be the same without him - he's a perfect fit for the character of Wallander! I certainly haven't seen anything indicating that he wouldn't so a third series.

For Wallander fans, here's a downloadable Adobe Pdf document about the Wallander locations in Ystad - http://www.ystad.se/ystadweb.nsf/wwwpages/2B771FAB0A5A7DC9C125730700343C64/$File/wallander_pdf_english.pdf.

I thought it was a great finale, although maybe not enough Nyberg for my taste. I had a tear in my eye at the end too.

And phew! they didn't kill Jussi after all!

I watched it the first time round and even then they didn't actually promote it even on BBC4 let alone on other BBC channels.
Most programmes get trailers in between the end of one programme and the start of the next. Wallander never seemed to get any promotion though as far as I could tell. It was the same with The Spiral.
Its as if the BBC are allergic to promoting their own foreign language imports?!
