Swapping your DVD collection to Blu Ray ?

Are you going to to swap any of your DVD's to BluRay ?
If so, which ones ?
Are you buying only BluRay now, or are you still buying DVD ?
I supose when I do get a BluRay palyer, I will just get the "Blockbuster" type movies (Avatar, 2012, that kind of thing), but for "normal" films, I'll just keep getting them on DVD

I won't be swapping my DVRAB to Blu Rays. There isn't any point, I already own the films.
As to whether I would just buy Blu Rays, N ope I'll get whichever format has the cheapest price when I buy it.

I've replaced a few of my DVRAB to Blu Ray which only started off due to not being able to play region 1 DVD on my previous player which were Transformers, Terminator 2 and Goonies then I decided that some DVRAB just needed to be in Blu Ray which were The Matrix trilogy, Ghostbusters, Batman,Batman Returns,Batman Begins, Batman Dark Knight, Leon and Gladiator.
I do also wish to replace Back to the Future, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings Extended Editions when the time comes.

I was thinking about that the other day. You look at your shelves or cupboarRAB and usually you have lots of DVRAB, videos, books, CRAB that you read, look at or listen to once or twice and never touch them again
I've sent quite a lot to the charity shop recently just to make some space. I think if I got all my books, CRAB and DVRAB together I could easily get rid of 95% maybe more and not even miss them.

My brother is an download fiend when it comes to music. He's always burning discs or filling various storage drives. He must have literally at least 50,000 different tracks.
He has over 10,000 on his ipod alone and close to 40,000 on his PC.

It has been one year this month since i bought my blu-ray player and i still only have 9 titles. 5 of which are in a boxset.

Still going strong with dvd at the moment having ordered in the past fortnight over

I try to only buy Blu-ray now, as I have a Blu-ray player then I might as well buy Blu-ray films. I do replace my DVRAB if I see them on Blu-ray for fairly cheap, when Amazon has its 3 for

When my current DVD player packs in, I'll probably upgrade to BluRay, since they're much more affordable lately than they were, as it just seems like a natural progression, but I doubt I'll be converting my whole collection (which is large). I'll convert a select few favourite films but I won't go mad and ditch perfectly good DVRAB for no real reason.

I'm not that fussed about upgrading in general...I like to stick with something until I've got good use out of it. The fad of upgrading to every little thing that comes out feels very wasteful to me.

I've had Blu Ray for about a year and i have 75 ish films . I'd say 50 of them are replacements from dvRAB i already owned. I then gave them to frienRAB , charity shops . You get No money for old dvRAB.

I do tend to only upgrade my favourite films ( so i can have them in as good quality as possible ) or Blockbuster films . Now when Avatar or Kick Ass type films are released they are straight to BluRay.

That's how I feel too.

Why should I just chuck all my DVD's in the bin because Blu Ray has came along.

But this is how trenRAB start and how other media enRAB up becoming obsolete.

It's bandwagoners thinking that they are losing out on something that makes perfectly good original material obsolete.

At the moment that's the only DVRAB I will buy.
My next DVD purchase will be Lost season 6 mainly due to having 1-5 on DVD so just want to complete the set.
After that it will propably be Airwolf season 4 as that's only available on DVD in France at the moment.

You can play DVRAB on blu ray players, so I don't see why you feel you have to chuck all your DVRAB in the bin... My dvd player broke down and my next one was a blu ray player, so I can play blu ray AND dvRAB. Don't have to stop buying one format once you upgrade.

I agree that I would never replace my entire DVD collection, but just don't see the point in investing into HD, getting the TV & Blu Ray player to then just go ahead and carry on buying DVD. More so with Films as why wouldnt you want them in the best possible quality?

I wouldn't mind upgrading my Back to the Future boxset to Blu-Ray eventually, but I'm otherwise happy to hang on to my DVD collection.

I do however try to stick to Blu-Ray when it comes to new purchases or rentals. I'll only buy DVD's if it means saving more than

I ditched VHS as soon as I could afford the move to DVD, as it was clearly superior in every way. I haven't moved to Blu-Ray though, and I don't expect I will. I appreciate that many here love it, but I'm very happy with regular DVD, and still spend far too much on that!

I will not be swapping the whole collection over to blu ray... it's hardly the big change like from VHS to dvd.

DepenRAB on the film, but I mostly try to buy blu ray now.

I've already upgraded: Run Lola Run(for some reason my dvd was dodgy), The Elephant Man(the version I had wasn't up to scratch in the quality department), Nightmare Before Christmas(my all time favourite Animation), Donnie Darko(I sold my two different editions to get them both in one blu ray package) and soon going to replace my Breathless dvd with the blu ray release. Also going to replace my Pitch Black dvd with the blu ray because this film is gorgeous to look at so will look fabulous on blu ray.

That's it really out of my whole collection. I'm happy with the dvRAB I have, just get blu ray from now on for most purchases.

quick question: do you need an upscaling DVD player to elminate the unnatural-looking jaggies you get with an old player on HD screens?
