Swap rental during contract with no penalty

Are renters that inept or is the Bell equipment so complicated? With cable, I unplug the old unit and walk down the street to the cable video store and they give me a new one, like a PVR, and I walk home and plug the unit back in the way the old one was.

Let me see:

Power cord plugs into the outlet in the wall and into the back of the receiver. Check.

Cable from the satellite dish (or cable provider) plugs into the back of the (new) receiver. Check.

Cable/component cable plugs from the receiver into the back of the TV. Check.

Turn receiver on. Turn TV on. Watch TV. Ask wife to help find remote. Check.

Yes, I clearly see why a Bell technician is required to charge $75 for this process. He obviously can save time finding the remote.

Okay Robert.
I'm going to buy something from you. A year later, when a better deal is out on the same product, I"m going to come back and complain that I didn't get that deal.
And complain...
And complain...
And complain...

Go to a car lot, buy a new car, after a year go back and ask them to give you back your money and let you pay the current price for that year and model of car.
They'll laugh you off the lot.

You purchased at the time you purchased and got whatever promo was available then.
I'm not sure why you continue to complain about the subject Or maybe I don't have a clear idea about what it is that you're so put off by.

Maybe you can explain to me in a PM so I have a better understanding.

Nem, who really would like to understand

This...is totally ridiculous...You want to swap for the same receivers but MPEG 4 to be able to see new channels and you got a penalty...

It's the same pattern with Bell, the answer you receive don't satisfy you, ask the CSR to cancel, they transfer you to retention department and you got what you want...

... which is fine incentive to cancel altogether and go over to the other satellite provider which doesn't have any contracts and therefore no usurious cancellation fees or switch entirely to cable and start enjoying On Demand TV.

My understanding of the reasoning for Tech charges stems from the fact that the Rental Receivers do not belong to Express Vu, they are owned by a Third Party.

All Rental receivers and switch's etc NEVER belong to the Customer, they will always belong to this third party. They can, after refurbishment be sold to Express Vu, if they so desire.

This is the reasons we have been given when asking the exact same question when the Rental program re-started a few years ago.

As an installation Company, we were supplied with 2 versions of almost everything, SW21's, SW44's, multiswitch's, Receivers. We were not allowed to substitute an ORS (Out Right Sale) switch if we ran out of Rental switch's, we had to cancel the installation and reschedule, we shouted long and hard, and after many weeks we finally got our way to interchange switch's etc, we could NEVER interchange Rental Receivers for ORS customers but could, with prior written permission, use an ORS receiver for a Rental Customer..

Even now, with a couple of exceptions, all refurbished receivers have to used for Rental customers.

When the rental system started, all Receivers had a small black sticker on them saying they were Rented, they, Express Vu, expected us to apply the same stickers to LNBF's, Switch's etc at every installation, so there was never any question of ownership.

One very frustrating situation for ourselves is that if a new customer Rents, say, 4 x 4100's and during installation asks for a 5th receiver, the procedure is quite complex.

Our Technician calls into Express Vu, puts the customer on the telephone, they are charged another $50 for the Rental Certificate, which is refundable. Then they are charged $75 for the running of this 5th line, not refundable. Lastly they are charged $150 for an 8 way multiswitch, again not refundable.

So, for what the customer is invariably told is going to be a "Free Installation" they suddenly find they are paying an extra $225 for ONE additional receiver, which will NEVER belong to them...... Absolutely bloody ridiculous.

Do you know how many times we get 4 receivers installed that advise the customer of the charges for the 5th line and have to remove all the ones we just installed.? Well it happens at least 5 times a week, what a waste of time and effort, the Technicians get ZERO for all the work.

We even have a recording, made by a Customer, who was told by the CSR, to NOT mention the 5th line until the previous 4 had been installed and activated...... I had the pleasure of visiting this gentleman, he was very professional in the way he dealt with our Technician and myself, but when I returned the next day, with an Express Vu Manager, he ripped his head off.

That was the highlight of my day, no my week...... This Manager thinks he can calm any situation down, he was wrong.

The outcome was even funnier, as from our activation to the Managers visit and subsequent follow up, exceeded the 10 day cooling off period, the Customer was now locked into a 2 Year Contract..... It is heading for the courts, I have my side of the story all ready to go, so has the Technician.

Just as a caveat, Once a receiver is activated by a Technician, he CANNOT take it out, even if it fails whilst he is still on your premesis..!!!!

God I enjoy my job......lol

it's not either Poet.

The equipment is BELL's. They want to make sure it's installed properly.

Same as when you lease a car you have to take it in for maintenance at an approved dealership. You have to have it done and you have to pay for it.
It's part of the contract.

For warranty purposes they want to make sure it's hooked up and working proplerly.

Nem, who can see why there is a charge.

Okay, so clarify a bit here -

I rent a 6100 now (MPEG2). I decide I want a 9200 instead. I call Bell, and tell them this. Would I only pay the difference in rental cost?

Sorry but that explanation doesn't hold!

I rent my 9200 and when they sent me a replacement in the mail, I...yes I...replaced it and sent the old one back.
There was no technician inside the box to install it for me...

Anyways just tell the CSR you want to cancel (when they tell you the 75$ fees), they transfer you to retention and after you explain the situation, they probably credit you the fees to keep the customers.

It's the same sh*t whit all company...

Sorry DrAko... I didn't read the last sentence properly. I taught the sentence said I don't get a penalty...

No you won't get a penalty for changing the MPEG2 To MPEG4 since it represents an "upgrade"

If you already have four the fifth one can not be a rental since you can not have more than 4 rental per account

Once again you are TOTALLY misinformed.

You can only activate 4 rentals on one ORDER, you can then rent more receivers with a separate order.

Jesus girl read your info ......

Ok, thx for the info. It's excellent so when the "9200" MPEG 4 comes, i call Express Vu to swap my rental 9200.

Mozza, you would have to pay for techicians come to install new receiver and pay the difference each month but you won't get penalty to swap.

So to cancel my contract, it would cost $99 for the equipment contract, and $100 for the programming. Total $199.

I currently have one 6100 receiver rental, and the dual LNB action. So what would the install cost on a 9200 be?

There is no direct analogy to a car. But let's say you pay $20,000 for a car that cannot be rented and $50/mo for the "privilege" of driving it. 12 months later the car company says your "privilege" rights are now going to cost $100/mo because they just decided to rent the car for $250/mo with no "privilege" fee for 6 months to new customers. You must now subsidize the cost of buying rental cars and supplying privilege fee giveaways for new customers. Not only that, you find out that the tires you had to pay extra for are now being given away. You also realize that many of those new customers will walk away after 2 years, leaving the car company with even more losses that you must subsidize. Also, the number of "privileges" are falling behind those offered by other car companies because the company failed to plan far enough ahead and invest in infrastructure. They still claim to have the most "privileges" but everyone realizes it is a false claim. Not only that, you have also just found out that the car company has decided to change the way "privileges" are delivered and that makes the car almost impossible to resell because no one wants a car that cannot be driven in 1 or 2 years. In addition, you find out that the new customers will receive new cars in 1 or 2 years but your purchased car may need to be replaced at your own expense because it has been made prematurely obsolete. That's about what EV has done to customers who purchased their receivers before rentals began. Would you be happy?

Be sure to call in requesting your $75.00 self installation credit be posted to your account right away as the picture and sound are beautiful!

You should not infer or assume this will necessarily be in effect when new mpeg4 hardware is available. What is offered today may or may not be offered a week or a month from now. It may be, but it is anyones guess what will actually happen.

Interesting....Let's see what happens in a couple of months when the new receivers will be available.
