Do You Like Hitchcock really is bad , even for a modern Argento film .
Not helped by the fact it was made for tv. Its out in the US.

I too have the US dvd of Opera (its region free). Its the 2 disc set with cd soundtrack .
You should get their dvd of Phenomena.
The first one was not anamorphic but they reissued it and that one is and you should be able to get it for a tenner or less.

I have the US Blu of Stendahl ( and Crystal Plumage) and it has English and Italian.
If you're interested I have the 2 disc Italian dvd of SS with 2 versions , one slightly longer than the other.

Now that the BBFC have passed Deep Red uncut for the first time ever in the UK the UK Bluray out next month will actually be worth getting.

There is some debate as to whether the short version will be included with the long version.

Did you get either of the dvd releases for Four Flies ?
 
That could be the original 80's release by Fletcher Video.

I had that 105 minute tape for years

But for widescreen laughs check out the Vampix tape of The Bird/Crystal Plumage.

Squashed credits then half the picture missing.
The same master was used for the budget release on Stablecane Video
 
I see that apart from the US release from Maya on Oct 19th there are also releases of Giallo on R3 Asia and R2 Poland although the foreign subs are not removeable on the Polish one
 
My edition is only a 1 disc set with no soundtrack, but my Suspiria dvd box set from America has the soundtrack with it.

I have Phenomena on my list to replace the vhs, the blu ray is out in March I believe, so will be going for that. Same for Stendhal then since it has the Italian track. :) Deep Red will be a must too, so look forwarRAB to that.

Haven't got Four Flies, which edition do you recommend?
 
dont listen to this. mother of tears is a great film. ok,its not as good as the first two but if you like lots of violence,female nudity,a wierd story and suchlike,you wont go wrong with this.
 
Phenomena was where it all started to go wrong for Argento.

Ludicrous plot ,out of place heavy metal music and poor acting.

Even long time Argento fan Alan Jones wrote this one off.
The end result was considered so poor that the UK distributors removed about half an hour of footage and renamed it Creepers.

Released in the wake of the video nasties hysteria the film also had censor cuts made to sections that seem laughably bad today and would pass as 15.

Of course it made even less sense after that.
 
I think most film fans - even Argento fans want more than violence and nudity -perhaps 25 years ago :rolleyes:

I've also seen Mother of Tears and like the majority of Argento fans I think it's his most appalling film ever .
Mainstream audiences would laugh it off the screen.

However there are a hardcore but very small group who actually think the film is good although if you watch it you will wonder how anyone can think if it as anything but an insult to the memory of Suspiria and Inferno.

They are out on Bluray and if you like them you will be gutted watching MOT

Waste your money on this at your peril.
You have been warned.
 
It's on now on Film4. Not sure I can stay up but this film is one of the few horrors that genuinely has me crapping my pants.

I love this film, and Argento is easily one of my favourite directors.
 
Oh I agree, I only like it for Jennifer Connelly to be shamefully honest. I shouldn't have copped out and tried to make out that it's actually any good earlier.


I take that back.

Connelly was an early childhood crush of mine, you are going to have to bare with me there. :D

I wouldn't have any care for it at all otherwise.
 
I enjoyed the film. I thought the visuals were a big factor in creating tension. It's a very well-made film. I recommend it at 3 stars out of 4.
 
theres a lot of rubbish been written here about mother of tears. dont listen to it. its a good film.you dont have to buy it,rent it instead and make your own mind up.
