Superman Returns

It took in around $32 million in it's second week, which is quite some way behind movies like King Kong and Batman, and less than half of what Spiderman 2 took in week 2. There's a big question mark over whether or not it can even make it to $200 million now, but WB are almost certainly committed to a sequel, so don't worry.

Looking at the movie, and considering what Singer has said, I doubt the actual budget was much more than $200 million, not counting marketing, of course. Given the many false starts, I doubt WB ever expected it to break even, but they will more than a little concerned that it is now looking like a bit of a flop.

Well we dont need that as it is a very safe assumation that the conception happened in Superman 2 when Lois and Superman slept together as that would make sense!
As Superman is meant to have left after Superman 2 to go to Kypton and returns in Superman Returns so I cant think of any other time that we would have managed to fit in sleeping with Lois again!

When she slept with Superman/Clark, she knew they were one and the same. Let's say this was where she got pregnant, and that the super-kiss erased her memory. In SR, she wouldn't know who made her pregnant, but she clearly does. In her response to Lex's question about who the father is, you get the sense she already knows at this point, but even if she only realised after she saw Jason use his powers, how could she possibly make the connection that Superman is the father and not know Superman is Clark, which there is no indication of whatsoever?

Again: "If I was going to tell a return story, I had to pick a place to jump off so I chose Donner

Correct.

Something to do with a contractual problem whilst the original cast is not in # 3, hence Margo Kidder is only in for 10 mins max, and instead it's Annette O'Toole playing Lana Lang. :D

Yes it is a daft idea.

It wasn't really used much the weather satellite in the film, but in theory, if a laser was used hot enough from space etc it could interfere with the atmosphere & cause tornados etc.

Just when I thought I couldnt like this character any more................... :)

It seems logical that a character that always wants to save/help people would you know........wanna do the same for the animal community!!!!

Was it just me or did anybody else think Lois to be a veggie too? In regarRAB to the "burrito" scene Richard says something to the effect

"We are outta beef but we have veggie and tofu"

Just thinking about it now maybe that symbolises Clark to be a vegeterian? Seem as how they didnt have any other meat dishes?

What do we think?

I think Ill be getting Birthright now too!!!

:)

I don't know for sure, but it's certainly not unusual for a studio to release extended DVD versions of movies that were slightly disappointing at the box office to boost their sales, and given how much was obviously cut, evidently last minute, it sounRAB like Singer might be less resistent to the idea than he first was, but only time will tell.

I'm not sure if the Kryptonian scenes were actually completed. They might have been filmed, but would probably require quite a lot of post production before they could be used.

Siegel and Shuster's original vision of Superman was so far removed from the modern version, it's barely relevant. Religious themes and iconography don't bother me, I think it's a potentially interesting take on the character, it's just not my preferred one, and like I said, I thought they were being far too heavy-handed about it, and it was one of the elements that served to distance Superman from the audience a little bit.

For the moment, it seems like this generation will probably associate Welling and Cain more with Superman than Routh. I hope a sequel will start to change that, though.

I think they were bulging eyes rather than glasses. Don't remember seeing a cape.

Mic?

"I don't wanna squeal like a pig" :)

"You don't have to be crazy to work here, but it helps." :)

Maybe Jessica is new to forums in general, and specific fan forums like that can get a little crazy, I guess. I don't personally bother with them, but I have certainly heard some of the distasteful nonsense about Ebert from other sources as well, so I'm not all that surprised.

I like your enthusiam for the subject, and at least you have an outlet for your super-fever. :)

Great Ceasar's Ghost! How do you find the time?

He certainly sounRAB like he thinks he's a lock for the sequel, which is encouraging, and like I said, I couldn't care less about the Krypton scenes myself, although it sounRAB like they could be fun in iMax 3D, but I just want the DVD now. It feels like months since I last saw the movie.

Btw, the US box office is really running out of steam. With only just over $200,000 a day and theatres dropping off in big chunks, it looks like $200 million is a looong way off. It's technically still possible, but it could get pulled before it makes it. Still, Kong at the same stage was taking just marginally less, and it managed another $8 million. If Superman could do the same, it could just about creep past $200 million. Not that it really matters much in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a nice little milestone to reach.

LOL! I missed that one. Now there's a Celebrity Death Match I wouldn't mind seeing :)

Yes, I didn't see Miller's Superman as a Government slave, more a misguided patriot. That is by no means an acceptable characterisation outside the DK universe, of course, and would never be included in any sane person's view of a definitive incarnation of Superman, but it worked quite well as a foil for the rebellious Batman and captured a certain zeit-geist.

Yes, that's the key here. Not so much the brain, but his core values and personality that makes him more human than alien. Byrne went to great lengths to depict Krypton as a cold sterile place, much like the first movie did, in sharp contrast to how Supes grew up and was raised on Earth.

I am somewhere in the middle, I guess. I really liked the movie, but there were more than a few things that concerned me more than some of Superman The Movie's silly flaws. I won't spoil anything for you, though.

Yeah maybe because it is really bad!
Bryan Singer was talking at Comic Con about the Superman Retruns sequel:
"Yesterday, he returned to talk about the movie, and he did so to a hero

I found it soooooo slow. Why is it these days blockbusters take so long to get going. 40mins in superman returns before any proper action, same thing happend with king kong.

But you see there lies the end of my point that I posted.
If you are given evidence to believe it then its easier to take on board.

We are given evidence to that he can fly, use heat vision, ice breath and all of his other abilities.

We arent given evidence on his reproductive specs apart from the end results.

I dunno I just wanna emphasise Im not looking to pi$$ anybody off or seem rude or cause a fight, its just what Im feeling from others around me.

Personally if the sequel were right now Id want an answer but Im almost sure in 3 years time I wont care as Ill have accepted it (as I have begun to now)

:)

Man, it's a heatwave outside. I'm not sure I can even spell the word "crismas" at this point, and you're already opening presents in your mind :)

The Xmen movies were quite cheap. I think the first one had a budget of well under $100 million.

I'm not that bothered. The Kryptonian aspects of the Superman mythology were always the least interesting to me, so whether this is part of the movie on the DVD or merely included as an extra, doesn't really matter too much to me. To be honest. I'm used to the theatrical cut now, and I have to say, I hated what thet did with the "Special Edition" 2001 Superman The Movie edit.

Jesus is a pretty hot potato in the US, and Superman already had to deal with accusations of being a "wuss", gay, not Reeve, had his "package" photoshopped, etc, etc, and this was just something else it didn't need.

Ah yes, one of my minions mentioned this. I forgot to look out for it, though.

Really? SounRAB like an odd thing to yell. Are you sure you weren't just imagining things? Was this when he was being kicked and punched by the thugs?

Dude Im already ordering them! I have made it very clear that the only thing I want this Christmas is The Ultimate Superman set! R1 or not I HAVE TO HAVE IT! :)

I just think then its stupid to have had such lavish (and expensive) sets being used for no good reason but to be never seen again. Personally I like the whole Krypton stuff as its a part of the character that isnt exploited all that much (for me personally!) What was so wrong with the 2001 cut? Im sure that youll be pleased to see more cuts comming then but this time with Donner doing Superman II I think!

Wuhu!!!!! Does that mean that I am now upgraded to minion status????????? Or do I have to actually find it first????? :D

Yeah Im sure thats what I heard! When Lex kicks him around a bit his minions come out and at the stage where he is being pulled by his jaw so they can do the "deed"(!) you can hear "Im still Superman!" As I said my mum will be better at stuff like this so Ill get back to you on that Monday night!

Well in the next few hours we will HOPEFULLY have a lot of our questions answered though all I wanna hear is if there will be a sequel and if so when.......and maybe an extended cut!
