Suggest a good lesbian (gay) movie :)

A few thoughts on "Girl Play", recently released on DVD.

It is a nice, intelligent, funny, small independent film. A little "arty" (due to early life in the theatre perhaps?) But other than the cheesy music, I would recommend at least a DVD rental.

Hello..thought it would be interesting to see how many of you have actually watched some lesbian movies...suggest some to broaden other people's horizon (including mine :) )

My suggestion(s):

Tipping the velvet
Pourquoi pas moi
The L Word

Ju411 :)

Sorry to bump this but I saw this movie for the first time last night :o Absolutely wonderful - I loved it. Just been reading up on it a little bit - didn't even realise it was based on a book :o

It did rather gloss over the lesbian aspect although there were obviously definite overtones. I would love to read the book - anyone here read it ? Is it better than the film ?

And am I alone in thinking that there was an unspoken suggestion that Ninny WAS Idgie ?

This is a fantastic film and stars my favourite actress, Isabelle Huppert:

Coup de Foudre
In 1942 in occupied France, a Jewish refugee (Lena Weber) marries a soldier (Michel Korski) to escape deportation to Germany. Meanwhile a wealthy art student (Madeleine) loses her first husband to a stray Resistance bullet; at the Liberation she meets an actor (Costa Segara), gets pregnant, and marries him. Lena and Madeleine meet at their children's school in Lyon in 1952 and the intensity of their relationship strains both their marriages to the breaking point.

User's comment:
Huppert's poignant and bittersweet portrayal reminRAB me of her delicate work in Madame Bovary (1991). There is the same listlessness expressed along with a vague desire for something better out of life, and the anticipation of the sadness that we know will come of such desire. Miou-Miou is sharp and cynical with perhaps a streak of the manic-depressive about her. The love they spontaneously feel for one another is real and beautiful and makes us want it to be fulfilled. But Lena holRAB herself back because of her family, and then it is the men and propriety that get in the way.
