Subscribing To Bell Tv Without any contracts?

Are you sure.?

I was certain that the advantage of signing a 1 or 2 year term was that the price you paid per month was locked in for the full period of that contract.

You could just call Bell and ask.

New subscribers are generally tied to these conditions: 2 yr contracts for programming; photo ID verification of account holder; credit card or electronic funds transfer verification for payments; purchase of rental kit of $50 for SD or $100 for HD service, refundable upon activation.

It is not like the cell phone providers. Cell phone providers allow contract free (month to month) post paid monthly service. Last I checked: Bell, Telus, Fido and Rogers all allow this, plus they allow you to buy new equipment and activate new account.

Did you ever read Ex Agent EV's posts? She said more than one time (I think she's female) that if you buy new equipment you cannot go with new activation / account. So how is this same as cellular providers? Mind you, I asked explicitly in earlier post that "what if I buy the equipment at full price", and the answer was still no.

She said the only way to go no contract is to buy used equipment. This is really not like that in any cellular provider I know of in this country. How is it like the other?

fortissimo, I posted twice about a "work around" to getting new equipment without having to set up a contract. If you are bound and determined to spend $1,000s on new receivers, but don't want to be stuck with paying Bell for one year, there are ways to do it (BTW, I think you'll find that the market for slightly used Bell equipment is such that you're further ahead financially signing a one year contract to get the rebates, even if you break the contract before the year is up, than buying new equipment and having to get rid of it a few months later because you want to discontinue your Bell service for one of the reasons you mention in your previous posts).

Are you trying to tell me that customers who had contract with Bell did not get the last increase (digital service fee).

There are a couple of posters here who work/worked for Bell, so I'll defer to them, but here is my understanding about contracts:

You do not need to sign a contract to set up a Bell account if you do not intend to rent receivers from them. You are required to sign a contract if you intend to rent or if you want to get the credits/rebates/incentives Bell offers from time to time on new receivers.

In terms of buying a new receiver from BB or FS, their contract with Bell requires that they "set up" a Bell account on your behalf if you have none. Because the vast majority of purchasers want to take advantage of the rebates, the BB or FS sales person will invariably set up the account as a one or two year contract, however, they can set it up as a month to month account if you insist and are willing to forego the rebates. Alternatively, I have purchased receivers from BB and FS in the past and have skipped the "set up the account" step simply by telling them I'm buying the receiver as a gift or as a prize in an auction. I then contact Bell directly to have them authorize the receiver on my account.

Whereas you get free basic installation with any new "contract" account, I do not know whether you get free basic installation with a new "month to month" account. Certainly, if there is already a properly installed and upgraded dish (i.e. a "dual satellite" dish capable of receiving signals from both the "SD" satellite and "HD" satellite) and if you're reasonably handy and do your homework, you should be able to do the installation yourself, although the cost of a basic installation is probably worth it if it isn't included when you set up a new month-to-month account.

Has that policy changed recently? My understanding was the only way to escape an initial contract with Bell TV, was to purchase used equipment, and sign up with that, then add new receivers later (as a subscribed customer).

If you wanted to get a free installation of purchased equipment (new) you had to tie in for 2 years.

If you were happy to pay $99 for the installation it was a 1 year term.

If you didn't mind paying $199 for installation there was no tie in at all, just the 30 day termination policy.

Of course things change.

Policy haven't changed...

The ONLY way to open an account whithout signing a contract is by buying used equipement. If you buy equipement at Bell World, Future Shop, Best Buy or other retaillers you have to sign a 1 year or 2 years contract.

If you already have an account you could buy extra receivers whithout signing a contract, but if you wish to rent an extra receiver you would have to sign a 1 year rental contract

It's possible, but only if you get a cooperative employee. Personally I would suggest doing your homework first, decide on a television provider, and then commit - two years isn't that long.

Others, like Starchoice, will make you return all your owned receivers if you cancel in the first year. That could be quite a cancellation fee if you bought their expensive PVR.

So does it matter if you receive a receiver discount upon purchase or not, to get month to month and not a yearly contract? What about paying for the receiver full price (new and at store)? It seems a little odd, as even cell phone providers allow for month to month without annual contract, as long as you buy the phone at regular price and not discounted price.

The contract to me is a deal breaker, it's the only thing holding back. I don't want to buy used equipment either, especially have to find out if the original owner has authorized the transfer, de-register it from their account etc. Too much hassle.

Term contract while not protecting the price is the worst kind of contract, which is now how the cellular providers are changing their new terms to. Bell Mobility is known (infamous?) for increasing the SAF for their cellular service from $6.95 to $8.95 per month even for contracted customers. If you think this is alright, think if they increase it by $10, later $50, and later $100. then what will you be thinking?

When I asked if contract is necessary, the answer came back (Ex Agent EV) saying that with the exception of buying a used receiver, ALL customers must have a term contract for Bell TV. I asked a few other work around ways, like not getting the discounts etc, and then no positive answers as to the way to not have the contract.

Then I even got ridiculed by others, including a mod, as to my "integrity" as a customer (a moral issue), by asking simply why a contract is necessary. Someone else said that it is like the cellular phone provider, which I already debunked that it is not (cellular providers all allow no contract month to month service, and no used phone is needed to be a requirement).

You must have a term contract, while within the term contract, you must bear with any price increase from Bell. Well, you tell me why someone want a loose-loose situation.

Because most people don't want to try to install their own dish.

I started my account with a used receiver and installed my own dish. I have no contract. Then I added new recievers I bought from ebay.

Something to consider...

If you open an account with receivers you bought off a client (or ex client)
there would be a 35$ TRANSFER CHARGE.

You WON'T GET any NEW CLIENTS PROMO

You will have to PAY for the INSTALLATION (if required)

When you have a contract you are not supposed to get the price increase...

As soon as the contract is over Bell will start charging you the increase since they don't
resign clients like cellular compagny does

As soon as you downgrade anything after the a price increase the increase trhen apply

Since there is a huge lack of training at Bell certain call centers have a different version of what the price protection is

The call center where I worked was saying, when they had the price increase in 2007 that clients who bought their equipement where only price protected on the cost of programming and those that are renting are only protected on the rental price. After talking to many clients that weren't increased and renting equipement I called the helpdesk who confirmed that clienhts on contract should be price protected as long as they do not downgrade any item, even the the US network extra feed, a 1$ downgrade will make you contract no longer valid

As for cell phone I signed my contract a little over 3 years ago. My package was 30$ per month and had free evenings and week end, 1000 miniutes long distance, 20 calls free to a number and no service acces fee. After the 3 years I resigned and I still have the same price

Ebay sellers sell BRAND NEW AND FACTORY SEALED 3100's/4100's all the time. Yes 3100 has well. Eventhough BEV doesn't make them anymore doesn't mean people don't have them BNIB.

No contracts.

It will cost you though. 4100's are 90(shipping included) and 3100's are $100(shipping included).
