I've concluded after going back and forth on the subject for years as a seasoned animu watcher that dubs are superior.
Allow me to mock subfags typical arguments:
PURITAN ARGUMENT: Because having big multicolored text splattered across the original video is so much more pure than using the same clean cut and just adjusting voice overs. Makes perfect sense.
LERN2READ ARGUMENT: No matter how ULTRA FAST **** YEAH of a reader you are, you're still staring at the bottom half of the screen for at least 50% of every frame in the entire episode. And since anime is known for its fantastic visuals, why do I want to miss out on those visuals for even half a second? If I wanted to read anime, I have manga.
AMERICAN VOICE ACTORS SUCK: No they don't, in fact, they're better at expressing emotions through dialogue than the Japanese are. Also, pretty much all female anime actresses have one of two pitches: Extremely obnoxious high-voiced little girl or Deeper voiced sexual sounding woman. In b4 racism, even the Japanese admit this about themselves. (See: Hideo Kojima liking english VA's of MGS games over japanese VA's)
Lisa Ortiz is a better Lina Inverse than Megumi Hayashibara.
Steven Blum is a better Spike Spiegel than Kouichi Yamadera
The entire dub cast of DBZ is better than the entire original cast. (so is the music for that matter)
Finally, If you don't SPEAK Japanese you don't understand all the "subtle nuances" that go on during Japanese discussions, so don't go that route either.
MISTRANSLATIONS: Dubs are superior in this aspect as well. Subs often appear awkward while dubs go the extra mile and reword the phrases into something more fluid and fitting into our language. Subs don't, they often just direct translate. (See: GOOD NARUTO, YOU LOOK KINDA COOL, PEOPLE DIE WHEN THEY ARE KILLED) Seeing lines like that in serious scenes will always take you out of the moment.
Subs are only worthwhile when you're watching a series that hasn't been translated yet, or a case where the dubs are especially bad or tampered with. (4kids) Other than that, the only possible explanations for puposedly making it harder on yourself to watch a mindless TV show are:
-You get off on hearing incomprehensible asian languages.
-You honestly think you're missing out on some kind of secret messages that only subs could translate.
-You're an elitist weeaboo.
-Can't wait to hear the latest "KAWAII" or "DESU" meme to try out.
-You are taking japenese classes and want to test your progress and understanding of the language. (justified reason)

Side note: Live Action movies are a whole different story. Dubs ALWAYS look retarded in live action, they are unnoticeable in anime however seeing as cartoon characters have tiny little mouths that don't morph depending on the sounds they make.
