Stupid Republican idea of the day

Bumping for this.

Other than just pitching a complete fit anytime Obama does anything, what do they hope to gain from this?

Besides, You would think they would be encouraging the President to see more plays.

Ha!

The hissyfit over that is really stupid considering that The Previous Occupant spent more time on vacation, either in Crawford or Camp David, than any president...ever. And I don't think he was flying coach with Southwest Airlines to get to Texas.

I'd say that bringing handmade signs, birther letters, and yelling "Liar!" at a Presidential address to Congress counts as a pretty stupid idea of the day.

It also counts as the entirety of the GOP party platform.

In reality, it is partisan politics - but there is an argument that if the First Lady is going to be involved in running things, there should be some types of controls in place.
I understand you're only stating a devil's advocate position, but if she wasn't elected, and she's not on the federal payroll, then federal oversight of her 'position' is really inappropriate.

We don't need no gay recruitment centers.

We simply order all the members of the armed services to turn gay.

I've been working on a project and haven't been paying too much attention to the stupid Republicans, but it looks like something will happen today that might make this guy win the week.

House to consider resolution demanding Obama apologize to Crowley

Congress would demand that President Obama apologize to the officer the president said had "acted stupidly" in the arrest of a prominent Harvard professor under a resolution set to be introduced by one Michigan lawmaker.

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) will introduce a House resolution on Monday demanding Obama retract and apologize for remarks he has made about Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley this past week.

Obama had said at his prime time press conference Wednesday that Crowley had "acted stupidly" in the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, a racially-infused case which has sparked a national debate on race and policing.

The president refused to back down on his involvement in the case, but appeared in the White House briefing on Friday to say he had called Crowley to explain that never meant to insult the officer. (Obama also called Gates on Friday.)

McCotter's resolution would demand Obama "retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley for having unfairly impugned and prejudged his professional conduct in this local police response incident."

...

Here's the full resolution by McCotter (R-Dumbass):

DRAFT

House Resolution

Whereas on July 16, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley responded to a 911 call from a neighbor of Harvard University Professor Henry Louis ("Skip") Gates, Jr. about a suspected break-in in progress at his residence, which had been broken into on a prior occasion;

Whereas on July 22, 2009, in responding to a question during a White House press conference President Barack Obama stated: "Skip Gates is a friend, so I may be a little biased here. I don't know all of the facts involved in this local police response incident";

Whereas President Obama proceeded to state Sergeant Crowley "acted stupidly" for arresting Professor Gates on charges of disorderly conduct;

Whereas, as a former Constitutional Law Professor, President Obama well understands that all Americans are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and their actions should not be prejudged prior to being fully and fairly judged by an appropriate and objective authority after due process;

Whereas, President Obama's nationally televised remarks may likely detrimentally influence the full and fair judgment by an appropriate and objective authority after due process regarding this local police response incident and, thereby, impair Sergeant Crowley's legal and professional standing in relation to said incident; and

Whereas, President Obama appeared at a daily White House Press briefing on July 24, 2009 to address his denouncement of Sergeant Crowley and stated: "I could have calibrated those words differently" but "I continue to believe, based on what I have heard, that there was an overreaction in pulling Professor Gates out of his home to the station."

Whereas, President Obama's refusal to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to Sergeant Crowley and, instead, reiterate his accusation impugning Sergeant Crowley's professional conduct in the performance of his duties;

Now therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives

The site is a bleeding miracle, Squink. It burbles on and on in a sensible, mature tone about absolutely nothing. There are no ideas. Not that there are no new ideas, there aren't any old ones, either. Its a stunning effort, really. There are no provocative positions. There are no controversial notions. It is a sombre, sensible, and clear-eyed vacuum.

However did they manage to assemble all those cliches without accidentally including an idea?

Hey! I never got a limousine! The only time I've ever even ridden in one was at my mom's funeral. When the fuck do I get my limousine?!?

Under the new health care system, the death panel will kill your mom. But it's far superior to other Soviet health care plans in that you don't get charged for the bullet, and the funeral limo is reimbursible.

Get yourself adopted and you can ride to your new mom's funeral on the government's dime.

I disagree. At least not is she is forging public policy. But, hell, I think that Cheney's energy policy meetings should have been public too.

Move over Michelle! There's a new batshit lady in town! (ok, she's been around forever and has been batshit forever, but she's not as young and pretty as Bachman and so doesn't get the coverage).

She only resigned as governor of Alaska; I doubt we've seen the last of her, unfortunately. I'd like to know why she quit before I decide if it's stupid or not.

However, I'm very much in the minority over at DKos. Does this senile rant by Miller necessarily HAVE to be interpreted racially?

Yup. Anyone in this day and age who doesn't see why those terms would be racially offensive is so willfully blind as to be by default a racist. I very much doubt that ol' Zell, given his age and background, is anything but a fossilized relic of a time when such thoughts were mainstream and just fine.

Obama wasn't vetted? There's chilling overtones of beware unpatriotic thoughts! His supporters know there's a load of racists out there looking for any excuse (Not all of them Republicans: Hillary can put up a dirty fight when she wants to) and the Rebuplicans have shifted so far the raving right that they'd question Joe McCarthy's patriotism.

Their guy comes from the least American of the states way out in the Pacific with more links there than to the mainland. Both his father and stepfather are foreign, he has spent part of his childhood at school under a dictator who was no great friend of the USA and he bears a Muslim name.

So they didn't bother to make sure he was so squeaky clean that detergent would dirty him :smack: Really :rolleyes:

Virginia Foxx: Story of Matthew Shepard's Murder A "Hoax" (VIDEO)

As the House of Representatives debates an expansion of hate crimes legislation, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) has taken the rhetoric to a new level, claiming that those who say Matthew Shepard was murdered in Wyoming for being gay are perpetrating a "hoax" on the American people.

"I also would like to point out that there was a bill -- the hate crimes bill that's called the Matthew Shepard bill is named after a very unfortunate incident that happened where a young man was killed, but we know that that young man was killed in the commitment of a robbery. It wasn't because he was gay. This -- the bill was named for him, hate crimes bill was named for him, but it's really a hoax that that continues to be used as an excuse for passing these bills," said Foxx.

A Foxx spokesman didn't immediately return a call. The Matthew Shepard "hoax" notion is a popular meme on right-wing blogs.

"Matthew Shepard's mother was in the gallery yesterday and I believe she was back today -- so I'm sorry she had to be around to hear it," Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) told Thrush.

And this bitch had the nerve to say all this while Shepard's mother sat in the chamber? What the fuck kind of people DO that? What the fuck kind of brain damage are we talking about here?
