I just got this email from and Officer I served with in Japan. It is concerning 3 guys that worked for me. I kinda looked at them like my kids. They were fucking right out of highschool, first time away from home and over seas.
"...Well in regards to Balodimas and Lawson; they along with Roden were absolutely beat down by some Japanese thugs outside a 7-11 in Fukuoka at 6 in the morning. No one really can definitively say how it started but it ended with Balodimas having a cinderblock shattered over his head and his skull stomped into the ground. He is now and probably will remain a fair bit brain damaged due to the fact his skull was caved in and blood got into the brain and so forth. Lawson was apparently cracked upside the head with a skateboard and he suffered some broken facial bones but should have little long term damage. Balodimas is for sure done with the navy and has been evacuated to Okinawa to rehab at the better naval hospital down there and will be there until sent back to the states for probably a couple years of rehab..."
No word on Roden so I will assume that he is ok.
Fuck I don't even know what to say.
Living in Japan for almost two years...To say that an act of violence like this is unheard of is an understatment. Sure Japan has crime, don't get me wrong. Sailors do get in fights with eachother and sometimes the locals but not that often. Fights usually end up with someone getting their ass beat not almost killed...
