Stomped.

I just got this email from and Officer I served with in Japan. It is concerning 3 guys that worked for me. I kinda looked at them like my kids. They were fucking right out of highschool, first time away from home and over seas.

"...Well in regards to Balodimas and Lawson; they along with Roden were absolutely beat down by some Japanese thugs outside a 7-11 in Fukuoka at 6 in the morning. No one really can definitively say how it started but it ended with Balodimas having a cinderblock shattered over his head and his skull stomped into the ground. He is now and probably will remain a fair bit brain damaged due to the fact his skull was caved in and blood got into the brain and so forth. Lawson was apparently cracked upside the head with a skateboard and he suffered some broken facial bones but should have little long term damage. Balodimas is for sure done with the navy and has been evacuated to Okinawa to rehab at the better naval hospital down there and will be there until sent back to the states for probably a couple years of rehab..."

No word on Roden so I will assume that he is ok.
Fuck I don't even know what to say.
Living in Japan for almost two years...To say that an act of violence like this is unheard of is an understatment. Sure Japan has crime, don't get me wrong. Sailors do get in fights with eachother and sometimes the locals but not that often. Fights usually end up with someone getting their ass beat not almost killed...

while ive never personally been stationed in Japan, my buddies in the service that have, say that people start shit all the time. Its usually some boot talking shit to the little kids with bamboo sticks... and i hear they're vicious. I can imagine what transpired, but either way it didnt need to result in such a beating. It sucks to hear about that.

Well the thing about where I was stationed is that it's a small city. There is a very small Navy base. It has the best track history for Military/Local relations. Its not an Okinawa or Youkoskua where the locals are sick of the large number of american military...

Fukuoka is a larger city about 2 hours north of where the base is. They see only a handfull of Americans on the weekends and that is about it...
You just don't hear about shit like this hapening in Sasebo or Fuk....

Fuck it. People suck.

yeah people suck, but perhaps the thugs were on some sort of trip in the area. While it wasnt justified, they decided to have their fun battleing the "big bad american military".

Just a side note.
Lawson was 1 pound away from being put on extra rations (he was almost to the point of unhealthy underweight).
Roden looks like a 7 foot Lawson.
Balodimas was the only one of any imposing size and even he wasn't that impressive....

Real sorry to hear what happened to your friends, Cryptrocket. Sending good thoughts for things to work out for them, and that the recovery is better than hoped.

I am apalled. What could bring such a tragedy to reason? I would like to think that common decency and respect for you fellow man, may he be from another nation or ethnicity, would still be in existence. I suppose some find it logical to crush the ideals of soldiers who are merely doing their duty, in order to extricate a feeling of animosity toward what their counterparts are doing in Iraq, but I, however, do not.

Sorry to hear about this, and I am going to have to make a few phonecalls to, I got a few buddies that are stationed there right now.

I'm still waiting on an update from there. An old officer that I worked with is keeping me posted on any updates. What ever happened to when you get into a fight someone gets their ass whiped and both people WALK away...

They must of thought that if they let them go with just a ass beating that they might come back with more americans, so why not take them down hard, so hard that they might not even know who the hell did it by the end. I know it's cruel but some people would think along those terms, or they might of just been excessively violent.
