OK i own a 2001 Chevy silverado. It has just the basics in it nothing fancy windows are hand crank the locks are manual and it just has an am/fm radio. I want to put a good sound system in it because the speakers aren't that great in it so when i turn my music up it sounds all gargly (and no it isn't rap music).I also want to put in a stereo with a cd player. Where can i buy this kind of stuff and what brand would you suggest.

You probably don't need to hear this part but I'd stay away from anyone that starts their advice with "idk."

Rockford speakers are poorly made and blow very easily. While I was selling car stereos I saw a disproportionate amount of these and MTX speakers come back blown. Speakers depend a lot on your sound preference. I personally don't think it gets much better than polk audio but a lot of people like pioneer/alpine (their speakers are made at the same plant) infinity, kenwood and clarion. You just have to go listen to them with the music you like and decide which one sounds best. One thing to mention, all stores use an amp on the in store setup, so don't be surprised when they're not quite as good when you throw them in the truck.

Alpine head units are fantastic but they're very expensive. I find the options on pioneers are equal or better and the slightly reduced sound quality is made up for in the 50% price difference. Kenwood are also decent, less expensive than alpine but more expensive than Pioneer and still lots of features but not the same sound quality that you get with the alpine. Stay away from Sony, the sound quality is just sub-par. Same goes for all of the lesser brands like Jensen, JVC or whatever that cheap blue one is at best buy.
