Star Trek

I think some people are OTT on the plot issue. The plot I think was designed to shake things up but take a back seat over character introduction and development- that is where depth lies in Star Trek. Nero wasn't as important as the others it was more of a role. I think the story is fine - it works. Only bit I hated was scotty in the water system and some chekov parts. Now everything is in place I hope the next films build in more plot depth but keep the action and character.

It was a good film in the end but I missed the very very begining because of bloody traffic!!!- I came in as the kelvin detected nero's ship and it came through the 'hole' did anything major happen before that?
 
Yes because The director (JJ Abrahams) and the writters (Orci and Kurtzman) have said that it is an alternative time line and that all the existing Trek still stanRAB.
 
I should point out that we wre quite aware of the timeline but I think I don't think it was clear by the end of the film how you were then meant to link it to the series

Doesn't really detract from my other points that it simply isn't in my opinion a very good film or very Star trekish
 
I agree with your other points (the way they escaped the singularity was nonsense), but this one isn't so impossible. Nero dumped Spock on the nearest planet in the system on the closest part of the planet to Vulcan so he could watch it be destroyed. Sylar dumped Kirk on the nearest planet just before departing Vulcan, and the straightest trajectory would have put him down on the point of that planet nearest to Vulcan.
 
I saw this last night, on the main screen at EMPIRE Leicester Square no less, and thought it was great! :D

I was slightly worried it wouldn't live up to expectations but it was fine. Very action packed, really funny too. I haven't really seen any of TOS but have seen most of the films and this one reminded me alot of those which is great. It's alot better than some of the later TNG films too.

Had read reviews that Chris Pine was a bit bland but I thought he was great, as were all the actors.

Thought the time travel idea was a good one in order to get round Trek history. Gives them a clean sheet to do whatever they want from now on I spose.

Had a bit of wobbly camera overkill at some points and I thought the villain was a bit lame but apart from that... I'd say 8.5-9 out of 10.
 
The first Minute is the 3 film logos (Paramount, Searchlight and Bad Robot) then you see the Kelvin come onto the screen and they they say that something is coming out of something and thats it...

You missed about 10 seconRAB of the actual film...
 
I read an interview with Anton Yelchin in which he comments on this exact point. He says he doesn't know why Walter Koenig decided to pronounce all his v's as w's, but he did, so they decided it was an important, recognisable trait of the character and should be kept.

Its obviously why they had that particular scene. It was poking fun at a well-loved, but obviously incorrect aspect of the character.
 
I read the iphone official Start trek pre stories so I kind of knew what was going to happen in regarRAB to this reboot.

By having Remus blown up and Nero being sent back through time with old Spock it meant they could simply start again from scratch
 
The CGI was perfect, in that it didn't stand out. It all just seemed real, which is how good CGI should be. (For the opposite experience, see Wolverine.)
 
just got home from seeing it tonight, all i can say is AWESOME, really good, lots of laughs . liked Scotties little friend lol

but one this did upset me though

"Admiral Archer and his prize beagle" Noooooooooo:D


very impressed indeed with this film, will be having a second look me thinks :)
 
Because I spend an unhealthy amount of time on the internet (many different sites) reading people's opinions on a variety of topics (that's people of different ages, diferent countries and backgrounRAB). I have also talked to many people "in the real world" about the movie.
 
He was terrible wasn't he? He wasn't 'channelling' Scotty in the slightest and was simply an incredibly irritating, over the top character.

I too have just got in from seeing it and LOVED it!

I think the film wont win any awarRAB for polt- lets face it, its weakest element... HOWEVER, I just found it so warm, engagingand touching and an affectionate re-working of the Star Trek series...it was like re-visiting a familiar place from the past or an old friend....

The cast were strong too- great choices, Simon Pegg being the weakest IMO... (young Spock was fantastic!!) Tipped its hat to the old star Trek, updated, but respectfully so, not taking the piss outta the old franchise which is nice...

BTW I liked the Leonard Nimoy bits, but I have to say that next to him the younger Spock guy was just SUCH a better actor... made me realise how hammy the original series was...
