STAR TREK Appreciation #1: In 2009 comes a new vision of the greatest space adventure of all time

How did Katty Perry reach Numero Uno? Most likely because of her "I kissed a Girl" Single. Controversy = $$$

Hey, a Xena fan! :yay:
I'm always having to refer to Karl Urban as "Ceasar" or "That guy from Doom/LOTR" to my family. If I use his real name they look at me and ask "Who's that?"

I know. That was such great acting on Zachary Quinto's part. I wanted to cry each time from just the look on his face.

Didn't Karl Urban say that Bones was one of his favorite characters of all time and when he heard they were making a new Star Trek film he just had to play Bones? I think I heard that somewhere. I love it; he's awesome. And yes for Bones/Jim bromance. Hotness.

 I agree. How did Katy Perry get number one?

I am from Holland, and we got a special screening incl. the world premiere of Star Trek in Imax today at Pathe Arena in Amsterdam. :)

The security was very tight. Everyone had to turn in their phone and camera before the movie, and pick it up again after the movie.

I am pretty sure in the UK (from what i saw in my local cinema), its coming out tomorrow onwards with loads of showings and there is a midnight showing today at 12.30am in my local cinema :)

Here is my local cinema showings - ODEON - Leicester

 Loved this movie

I had never watched the series but it looked so interesting I had to see it. Well....what a great decision because I think it was the best movie I saw in the past 2 weeks :P The acting was great, the special effects were superb and I got the 'jokes' that the movie made about the series. Great job JJ Abrams :high_five:

The cast of Star Trek graced the red carpet tonight as the film premiered in London.

Simon Pegg and Chris Pine were among the stars at Leicester Square for the unveiling of the new movie, which chronicles the early days of the SS Enterprise.

Pegg, who wore a kilt for the event, described it as a "geek dream come true".

The film, the eleventh in the long-running franchise, is due to open in cinemas on May 8.

It has been rumoured that the cast have been signed up for two more instalments if the film performs well at the box office.

Star Trek, helmed by Lost creator J.J. Abrams, also stars Eric Bana and Heroes actor Zachary Quinto, both of whom greeted fans at tonight's premiere.

 I'll second that, Sadia! I was never really into Star Trek, until I was 11, and one of my cousins took me to see Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in the theater. The rest, as they say, is history! I became hooked on the original Trek and Star Trek: TNG (was never really into Voyager, DS9, or Enterprise).

When I first heard that they were making another Trek movie, I was a bit indifferent, but J.J. Abrams aboard changed my mind in a hurry! Can't wait to see his vision. :)

Such an amazing movie, the best movie ive seen this year I think. Abrams did a great job opening the franchise up to the next generation, you really don't need to know anything about the original series or movie's. I spotted Paul McGillion which I was so happy about (He went in for the role of Scotty didn't get it but Abrams liked him so they gave him a cameo, he plays a character on Stargate SGA and me and my sister where like "There's Carson!") I didn't realise McCoy was played by Karl Urban so there I am in the cinema saying "It's Caesar from Xena! He's pretty darn hot with that beard"

I wasn't sure about Spock and Uhora at first, but they have such great chemistry and it made for that great look from Kirk in the transport bay that I was fully on board by the end of the movie.

Great writing, great directing, great acting, great special feature, amazing movie.

Exactly. And that heart-stopping moment on Vulcan just before Spock and the High Council are beamed back to the ship, and his mother falls? Still heartbreaking, is just because of the absolutely broken look on his face. Gah, I can't help but just become involved all over again!

Bones is a LEGEND! I was so impressed with Karl Urban in this role, because I've only ever seen him in more serious, action-ey kinda films, but he played the comedy and neuroticism so well  I LOVE his outspoken-ness and how he isn't afraid to speak his mind, and I love that despite his gruff exterior, he's a bit of a softie underneath, seen through his bromance with Jim. He's so awesome!

Oh man, that's sucks you can't go to the play!!! How gutting :(

I saw that list, yay for Chris!! He should've been higher up, though.

J.R. MacReady, I'm glad you enjoyed it

Saw it today, and I definitely enjoyed it, even though I'm not a Trek fan. Hell, I didn't know anything about Trek other than it involved spaceships and stuff going into the movie. I didn't understand everything that was going on at all times, but the overall storyline made sense. Plus, the writing, acting, and effects were all great. Oh, and Chris Pine is rather . :D

I'm not a Trekkie but I'm soo excited about this film. I'm a fan of most of the actors cast. Can't wait!

Okay, I can't describe how much I actually LOVE this film. I saw it for the 3rd time today. It just completely lived up to my expectations and was so much more, it was AMAZING!!!

I'm C&P my thoughts on it from my LJ, with spoilers in tags. Warning, it's kinda long and full of squee!
