Hey fellow trekkies,

I just read that Star Trek 11 will be released on Dvd & Blu-ray on 16th November :D. I just cannot decide which format is going to get the notes .

Who here has the capabilities of both & who is going to buy what ? :p

Not if your collection is based on a student's budget.

Despite having a Blu-ray player in my PS3, I'll probably still go for the DVD version, as the upscaling on the PS3 is fantastic.

Also, I watched The Wrestler on Blu-ray the other night, and I wasn't too impressed by the so-called superior quality. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest on the other hand looked like it had been made yesterday.

LOL - i did forget what its called ! i was half tempted to actually write "the black evil scrary pirate ship"! but thought black fryer was close enough!

If you have blu ray capabilities then there should be no question which version you go for. Places like Amazon and Ebay make buying blu ray similar to buying the DVD disc, literally a couple of quid more or sometimes both formats being the exact same price.

Actually on that note, I'm not sure if the integration of the animated sequence is a good idea, I think the visual styles will jar too much, and I don't think it'll be that necessary, unless they heavily filter the animation with grain and maybe a halftone pattern, to make it look pulp-y.

For any new film release it's always Blu Ray for me. If I only buy one Blu Ray film this year it would be Star Trek.
Unfortunately, studios don't always do a good job with catalogue titles so I'm a little more choosy then.

I think WAY TOO much hoop-la surrounRAB blu-ray.
Quite frankly, I'd rather watch an excellant film on DVD than an average on BR.
What's the point in having the technology when the product is mediocre???

Apart from the better definition, the BluRay will run at the correct speed and have no layer shift pause.

BluRay is now my default option.

5-6x the resolution of dvd. you either have a dodgy tv or are blind if you can't see the difference.
that being said,i rent because bluray is over priced at this point. i doubt that will last though. in any case the difference is night and day, watching dvRAB is simply inferior especially on a film as visual as star trek.

your right with that - i just have this opsession of wanting to see movies as the longest, uncut, version available! which does always work out - not always a good idea.

well, that was kind of my view recently. I friend showed me a bluray he was watching, as he had borrowed a ps3 from another friend - and he ranted and raved about it. but i couldnt see any difference between that and normal dvd. or even a well scart leaded connected VHS copy of the movie!
for proberly many reasons !) he may not of had a HD tele
2) my eyesight isnt as good as it used to and i proberly should have glassess as i cant see roaRABigns in the distant anymore. so yeah.

so i had this view for the last 2 years of not really being interested in bluray. However, i think Star Trek was the pushing point (plus everything now is being realised as bluray at the same time as dvd) - as the special features are just brilliant - and because i am a big trekkie - i want to experience these said features.
which comes to the actually routine of buying a player. i want an actual games console rather then a standard player as you can use that said console for so much more.

And what i mainly like about bluray players is, they can play DVRAB. so a collection i wasted the last 10 years collecting will never go to waste! unlike those poor vhs's i bought. what a shame that was.

and of course still buy the odd DVD.

i feel sorry for a mate of mine who spent thousanRAB of dollars on a HD machine years ago!

Places like TheHut are even beating play.com prices. It really is worth going for the blu-ray if you can. Especially if your a big fan of a franchise like Star Trek, your gonna wann get the best anyway.

Not being able to see the difference between dvd and Bluray is bad enough but if you seriously cannot tell between VHS either then you are either watching ona 6" screen or you have serious eyesight problems.

As for the cost - Bluray might be over priced if you buy from high street stores but buying online or even better , from the US means you can get Blurays for less than the dvd or at worst a pound or two more than the DVD.

Play are doing a Bluray Steelbook exclusive of Star Trek 11 and I preordered for
