Star Trek 11 - Dvd or Blu-Ray ?

I'm a student too and i'll definitely be getting the Blu Ray version. I very rarely buy DVD's now because BR is so much better. I watched 'Pans Labyrinth' last night on BR and it had the most eye poppingly gorgeous picture quality that i've yet seen on a HD transfer.

I dont have a blu-ray player, Im still not sure whether the quality is that much better. I would like to see a comparison between DVD and blu-ray before I buy, but then on the same hand I wonder what was the point of me buying a HD ready TV if im not going to use that function. For now i've pre-ordered the DVD version but might buy a blu-ray player before then, so I might change.

In my collection i think 30 days of Night has the best PQ. Now granted my collection isnt huge but even the reviews i read at the time said it was one of the best transfers out. Just hit and miss sometimes with the latest Ghostbusters release being a good example.

i was a bit silly saying that really. i havent actually seen a vhs for over 8 years. and that was on small screen in me bedroom! what i guess i meant was - once a picture is crystal clear - i am happy watching it, no matter what it is.

i still have yet to see a bluray on a hd TV.

I think perhaps its the memory cheating and you are overestimating the quality of VHS.

I think if you tried one alongside plain old dvd you would be shocked at the quality we used to accept.

I have a large selection of dvd's of material unreleased on dvd that I've copied from my VHS recordings and you need to sit a good way back to stop the poor quality from getting a bit grating

If you are Bluray capable then buying dvd's is throwing money away.

DVD's are already worth nothing a few months down the line .

At least the Bluray will retain some value and as it will be no more than

If you are going to buy one new when it first comes out then surely you would go for the blu-ray. Personally for me thesedays I would never spend more than

my friend had has large 42inch toshiba lcd tv. not really sure if its HD. but he played the Fifth element on Bluray - and it just looked crystal clear to me.
but thank you for the screen comparisions, it does put it in perspecive.

I've not got it myself yet but I was going from comments on other forums that stated this was missing.

Where did you get yours?

I wonder if its missing from the individual release - although that would seem unlikely
