Is it just me, or did these points not make sense?
1) Where exactly were the two guys being held? One would think that Saw would have secreated them far away from any possible disturbance and detection, and, judging by the amount of recording equipment he had, probably at his own lair. Saw was quite sure that the bathroom would never be located, so it had to be miles from anywhere right? Also, after Mrs Gordon had stabbed Zep, Zep said something like, 'now I've got to kill your husband' and got in his car. However if this is true, how was he able to move so quickly between the guys and the family? Also, he would have have to have left the wife and daughter unattended for considerable perioRAB. True they were tied up but it was hardly Houdini style and Zep couldn't risk them escaping. I can only assume that scenes of Zep going back and forth between the guys and the family were edited out.

2) If Tap knew what Gordon looked like and presumably knew he had left the apartment, why did he not investigate further in the first place when he saw a suspicious looking guy he knew didn't live there at the window of his apartment at night, particularly when he must have seen this guy going back and forth to the apartment for many hours? For that matter, if was convinced the doc was the suspect, why didn't he follow him when he left, instead of continuing to watch his apartment?

3) Why, exactly, was Saw punishing Zep? He was punishing Gordon for having an affair and Adam for being a voyeur, but what did Zep do to deserve a part in the game? Zep wasn't in it with Saw, he too was in a kill or (presumably) be killed situation.

There's probably more I could think off but now I've got a headache.
 
You should hide all info using the [ spoiler ] and [ / spoiler ] tags just in case someone accidentally clicks onto the thread (like I just did - D'oh!).
 
The points above are all valid but still didn't detract from this being a grade 'A' chiller. There are so many great moments in this movie that the plotholes dont seem to matter. The image of Zep in the kid's bedroom with the blanket over his head scared the bejesus out of me.
What was your best bit?
 
Apologies if it's not obvious it's a spoiler alert. I didn't know about the tags damndirtyape refers to. I tried putting the whole title in CAPS but when saved it always defaulted back to how it looks now.

I agree cuttlefishspike this is an absolutely top horror thriller, as I state in another thread. I give the writer and director immense credit for imagining this film (co-written, incidentally, by the guy who plays 'Adam'). These points didn't occur to me until after I'd left the cinema, as during the film it's impossible to concentrate on anything other than what's on the screen. Best bits; the one you describe certainly; when you see Gordon being stalked in the car park in the security mirror; the scenes of the drug addict recounting her story; the guy covered in flammable stuff being forced to use a candle to escape to name a few.
 
I went to see Saw again last night and realised I had missed a few things (first time round I had a thumping hangover), the most relevant to Gashead's first point being the following:
I dont think Zep travels back to the bathroom prison until the end when he is being chased by Tap. I had initially thought he must have travelled back and forth several times in order to do the electric shocking but at the end JigsawJohn has the electric shocker in his hand. I also had forgotten the references to other thrillers, most obviously the lightbulb flashing from Rear Window, but also JigsawJohn slithering out of the car when just before abducting Dr Lawrence reminded me greatly of the famous TV scene in Ring.
 
I didn't think of that Ring thing... I generally just get confused to what Jigsaw did and what Zep did- at what point was Zep recruited?

I also agree with the first comment.... there was no obvious reason why he was picked on....

and whats a voyeur?
 
A voyeur is someone who gets off watching other people engaging in sexual activity. Another area where the plot developed a hole. Although Adam was someone who spied on others - remember he earned a living as some sort of private investigator - he didn't do it for gratification.

And taking pics of people is his job, so be it. The only motive I picked up was when he muttered 'I never see my family', but thats hardly reason to bang him up.

They never, hence the plot hole. Saw's explanation of why he roped in Adam was because he was a voyeur, however a voyeur is someone who watches others in sexual activity, which Adam never did. He only watched people in the way a private investigator does. If that's Saw's criteria he should have gone after Magnum first.

a voyeur doesn't always have to be viewing sexual activity. It can be used to term someone who generally 'views' but does not partake or get involved. As a snooping mercenary photographer Adam certainly fits the bill.
 
A few more questions....

Why hadn't Adam heard of the killer.
Juding by the clippings on Glover's wall it was a well covered case in the media.

Why was Dr Gordon's acting 'different' in the flashbacks?
He was well OTT (to the point of being a bad actor) in the present 'cell' scenes yet quite a decent actor in the Flashbacks.
This actually threw me a bit and I thought he was in on it.

One really daft thing is that there's no way that those two cops would go in their own after such a dangerous killer with no armed back-up and in the dead of night!
This took 'cinematic license' to the extreme.

And once they got there.....
What was the story with the 'screw drivers guy'?
What was with the killer in a ceremonial robe?
Why he not die after being blasted in the back with a shotgun.

Why didn't Zapp seek an antedote or help in the very hospital that he worked in?

How on earth did the killer manage to lie still all them hours, not even a twitch or breath!

Why was i yet again taken in by the hype.
I'm finished with all this modern Hollywood drivel.
I should have learnt after The Ring!

In all not a top thriller by any means.
Just your usual run of the mill 'popcorn fodder' done by a naiive director with some annoying holes, poor editing and unneccassy 'mtv style' fx.

It's a shame as the first half showed promise but in the second it just goes into 'cliched mode' with obligatory (not so shocking) twist.
 
1. Zep was in the Doctors house.All the equipment like the tv screen that Zep was watching was in another room in the house.

3.I guess he picked on Zep because he was abit simple an easy target.Maybe they built a frienRABhip up when he was in Hospital.Maybe Jigsaw gave Zep a drink with the posion in it & told him he would let him live but he would have to do something in return.
 
Re. Gerry D's point 1. I thought that at first, but think about it. For this to be true, we're being asked to believe that in the doc's presumably modern, well maintained apartment there's a bathroom that big that the doc has never seen before and will never find. Plus, how could Saw have got all the arrangements in place without any of the occupants noticing him? Even if it was somewhere in the building, hard to believe that room would exist and never be discovered.

Point 3, maybe.
 
I think we expect too much of these modern films these days.
Best to turn your brain off or leave it athe door before you enter the cinema these days.

When we tire (I already have!) of this modern 'throw away' movie style, I'm sure they'll get back to good old fashioned story telling!
 
I take it you have seen the movie gashead?

The place the 2 men are being held is in an old sewage work place.After Zep fails to kill the Doctors family he jumps in a car and drives off to where the 2 men are being held.Danny Glover gives chase in another car.When Zep gets to the building there's a sign or something that says it's a sewage work building.

The Doctor has until 6pm to kill Adam.At 6pm we see zep take the gun & he walks into the next room to kill the Docs wife & daughter.Also when Danny Glover character is fighting with Zep i'm pretty sure you can make out the equipment that is being used to spy on the 2 men in the background.

Also if Zep has been told he's to kill the wife & daughter then he is going to make sure that he is in the same place as them.
 
Is it me, or was there any point to Danny Glover's character actually being in the film? The only thing he did that was vital to the plot was to hear the gun shots go off when Zep is struggling with the doctors wife. Surely a 'random' could have done this?
