Not across Canada, from the Rockies, even the 61.5 bird is so low, the dish actually points down due to the offset feed.

As for # of TP's I think thats regulated by radio license.
I suppose you could try and use Ku Lo band and Hi band, but you'd still need an FSS bird in the same slot and then new LNB's for the linear polarities and larger dishes due to the inherent lower power of DTH verses the current hi power DBS birds.

Like already stated, they have some challenges (a.k.a. screwed IMHO)

As 1 of the early reporters of this disturbing phenomena, I contrasted the 3 pseudo HD's/TP against a 480i Fox feed of the same broadcast and we all know a lot of DN signals can be pretty crappy as well, this wasn't a whole lot better, so the $10 for HD should be repealed

Lindsay649,
I don't quite agree with your statement "A lousy program remains a lousy program in HD or not". As my wife and I continually watch programs that are in HD (trueHD - U.S. feeds) ONLY because they are in HD. We are watching programs that we haven't in the past just to admire what our home theater can produce. This is similar to what we used to do when we got surround sound - watch programming that had that capability to hear the system.

I'm currently with BEV (9200X2 and 6000), but am looking for an alternative primarily because of the poor sim-sub of HD channels. It's very frustating to see the quality drop when the sim sub kicks in with some of these programs. We are sometimes pleasantly surprised when the sim-sub is sometimes missed on the HD channel.

In the meantime HD-DVD's have been a mainstay.

Just my very humble opinion.

No one is forcing you to read threads about HDTV.

I can but will take a huge financial hit due to EV's policies regarding hardware. It's not something I can afford at this time.

Some of us have a lot of money tied up in HD equipment because of EV's claim to being the HD "leader" and having the most channels. It is becoming clear that EV lied in their commitment in order to gain HD subscribers. OTOH, if you want to compensate me $1200 for my EV equipment so that I can purchase replacements from another provider, feel free. I will stop "whinning" (sic).

But a badly delivered program at any resolution is not enjoyable. EV's delivery had gone from good, over two years ago, to totally unacceptable now. BTW, I really enjoy the added "enjoyment factor" that HD provides. Since you are not interested, you have probably never seen (or heard) good HDTV.

But it's a better lousy in HD. :D Not to mention that good HD programming in SD sucks by comparison.

Poor is a gross understatement. Incompetent, destructive, malicious and libelous is more appropriate. Not to mention contravening official CRTC policy. If EV can't do HD simsubs right (and it's obvious they are totally incapable of doing HD simsubs with even a minimum acceptable level of expertise), they shouldn't do them at all.

I think it's not a good idea for quality to put 3 HD channels in same TP. They would reduce the bitrate of each channels to 8-9 Mbits.

Actually, Videotron (and i think it's the samething for Rogers), put 2 HD channels per QAM. So the bitrate for each channel are around 14-18 Mbits.

I want nice HD quality like i have now on BEV, with 2 HD per TP. Customers pay 50-60$ per month for TV services with Bell so i think they are rights to ask a minimum of quality, and the minimum are a maximum of TWO channels per TP.

Maybe they need to change their jingle to Canada's leader in MEDIUM Definition programming, whatever the hell that is.
We all know what Hi Def, Standard Def and Enhanced Def are, but they have lost sight of the definition if HIGH.

I think their CompressVu nickname has been earned honestly, one of the very few things HONEST they have done.

Expressvu has become Canada's version of DirecTV's HDLite.

Example of channels that are 1280x720p on Expressvu wheras they are 1920X1080i on other providers (except for providers taking EXpressvu feeds)

MPix HD, M. Central 1 & 2, PBSHD E, Discovery HD, TSN HD, TMN HD, HDNet Canada

(I will try to be better in English for the pleasure of Mr. Mozza)

Is it possible that Bell missed long-term vision in this situation ?

In the "race" to be the HD leader against Rogers, Bell has forgot one thing...the quality.

But...customers prefers 50 HD channels in 720p or 30 HD channels in 1080i ?

Bell is in big trouble, they really need a solution before MPEG 4 and Nimiq 5 in 2009.
