Speed HD

I think the point made by others - TSN etc. is the real reason they have refused to include Speed in their offerings. They just don't beleive that their product can stand up to open competition and the the CRTC provides them with a near monopoly so there are few other choices. They would be carrying it if they were competing in an open market.
 
I disagree - I think it's a realy, really, really, really, really, really, really cheap converter - and it's only available in HD so they can't force you to get both feeds.
 
actually, a few of your views are mine, hoping the idea doesn't gain too much momentum. There's a few channels I would rather see go HD before Speed.

BUT - I wish you luck :D
 
Maybe they plan to do the launch on the first F1 race or something. Im not that worried since I get it on RDS HD anyways. But I wouldn't mind an english version as well.
 
Other than the F1 broadcast SPEED really isn't in competition with TSN.

TSN and/or the US networks show the NASCAR races, SPEED only has extra race preview / review / update shows which are on either before the race/ after the race and during the week.

TSN has the IRL races too, although sometimes not live

What I want from Speed HD is the HD coverage of Rolex, LeMans, WSBK, Super-X, Barrett Jackson, etc, and even all of Speeds basic weekly shows, they are all natively done for HD now.

In Canada 98% of these races can only be found on Speed anyway, so there isn't any conflict with TSN or Sportnet that I see.
 
ripcard, you make some good points and those interruptions are indeed brutal. Since we "pay" for TSN already, you would hope they would provide it commercial free but that is dreaming.
 
I would LOVE to have Speed HD on Bell, I just switched from SC to Bell...but now that I don't have my Speed HD anymore...well I'm thinking of switching back to SC.
 
I just sent an email to SpeedTv. I told them that Bell refuses to carry their HD feed and that the SD feed looks like crap since the HD came out on other providers.
Do you think they'll answer? Would it help if everybody complained to Speed about Bell destroying their signal?
 
This is NOT a Bell issue.

TSN has paid for exclusive rights to F1 in Canada and very rightly asks Bell to black out Speed. At least TSN is kind enough to allow the Friday practices on Speed even though they have every right to black that out too.

Also, F1 races do NOT originate in HD because of the greedy nature of Formula One Management. They would rather spend money on yachts and cars rather than give the viewers HD. They are still SD, wide format, but not HD. So neither the British feed nor any other worldwide feed is in HD.
 
Can anyone shed some light on why TSN did not exercise their blackout rights until last year?
 
Can we PLEASE get this thread back OT? This thread is to discuss the carriage of SPEED HD on BELL TV, not F1 blackouts on SPEED vs TSN coverage.

MODS: please split this thread to clean it up...
 
I do not believe that the F1 feed is in HD, although they do broadcast in widescreen. TSN shows this 16:9, which is OK, but it's not HD. I expect that SPEED HD would be the same, since the resolution is dictated by the source broadcaster (in, say, Australia this weekend)

Mind you, this was the case last year. It is possible that F1 has upgraded its broadcast to true HD, but I have found no information to suggest otherwise. I guess we'll find out tonight once Qualifying for the race starts....

I worked on some of the F1 broadcasts last season and ALL of their broadcasting equipment is HD. Accept of a few races, all of them are produced and edited by FOA.
In terms of F1 races on Speed HD you can only count for rebroadcasts as the original broadcast is blacked out. Speed's coverage is SO MUCH better than BBC's feed on TSN! I'm currently with Rogers ): and hate every bit of them, the only thing that prevents me from going Bell is the lack of SpeedHD.

Regarding Speed, I love their week review show and it is a shame we can't see that in HD.
 
Not TSN or Speed Tv's fault, the race in Melbourne atleast is just not being broadcasted with HD cameras. Pretty sad if we don't see HD races this year, maybe we have to wait till ITV goes HD
