Speed HD

Unfortunately SPEED - SD is one of the worst SD channels available!

C'Mon Bell...give us some love...

One more thing. I wouldn't mind if TSN would air BBC's entire programming but that's not the case. Also, some of TSN's broadcasts are forwarded (not necessarily legally) primary feeds, without BBC's commentary. Than you're ending up with dull race where the only thing you hear is roar of the engines.

There's no question the popularity of Speed in Canada so thats not an excuse for Bell. Same goes for NFL Network and NHL Network. With Center Ice and Sunday Ticket I pay well over $200/month for programming right now, I expect to have these channels in HD.

I think the only major providers that don't have Speedvision are Videotron and Bell. Switching might be the only way to go - have to check out the cost.

Well let's see, NFL Network HD, not much would be available in HD. If we got their live games on the NFL Network then yes I could see it being added, but those games are blacked out here because Sportsnet has the rights, so I don't see this coming.

SpeedHD, was being tested early last year and dropped, a good decision. Other then a select bunch, there is no demand for this channel and to be honest, I would rather keep the poor picture quality I have now then sacrifice ever more quality for cars driving around in a circle in HD. If I want to watch cars driving in HD, I'll look out the window.

I suspect Bell recieves the HD feed from satellite and downconverts it, or the reciever downconverts it to SD.
And its a really, really, really cheap downconverter, thats why the SD feed looks so crappy.

I think TSN has the Canadian broadcast rights for the F1 races.

So SpeedTV must block out their coverage.

Regarding F1 in HD, here's a quote from Danielle Nagler, head of BBC HD, made on Jan.7, 2010:
I have had further conversations about this since our last contact, and indeed the BBC has had further discussions with F1 [Formula One Management]. But so far - despite some small moves by F1 which might suggest that they are moving in that direction - we have had nothing from them that suggests we're going to be able to offer any of the grand prix this coming season in HD. There is a feeling of certainty that it will happen at some point - but quite when that will be remains very unclear.
Sorry not to be able to respond in a more reassuring form, but don't want to give you any more hope than I have as to when we're going to be able to bring it to you in HD,

Also, here's a comment on the Speed forum:
The camera's they (FOM) have at present are GrassValley LDK5000 models which are SD but can be upgraded to produce in HD. However I understand that even once upgraded they don't give the best picture quality compared to newer products.
My comment - these cameras are 4 years old.

Man I switched from shaw to bell because of the lack of HD content and now the local Shaw HD package has Speed HD and bell does not. Come on bell be the leader and put All the HD content on that you can or you will loose customers. World Superbike and MotoGP would be great to see in HD.

I had Hot Pass in the past, and i loved it. But this was before TSN and TSN2 were showing all of the races. In the past they used to time delay some of them or just not show some of the races that were only broadcast on the US channels.

As for cancellling it and i'm sure i'm not the only one is because last season it was up in the air if it was actually going to be in service. Last minute Directv decided to run a free basic version to its customers. In turn most of the major providers in canada reduced the price. Bell did not. Same price as previous years for a dedicated channel showing what was on TSN.

I'm not sure how that would affect SpeedHD, they must have a large enough following to be offering SD, HD and an On Demand service on cable providers. So i don't get that there isn't a demand for it here.

Most of the shows on NFL network are in HD now. Around the League, Playbook, etc. Total Access their most popular and most watched show is also in HD. The picture quality makes me feel I'm livin in the 90's still !

Shaw Direct has had SpeedHD for two Nascar seasons now. Last year they carried the Duels and the All Star races and unlike the F1, TSN was unable to black out these Nascar races on SpeedHD even though they used the Speed signal.
I would hazard a guess that Bell is just trying to promote TSN on their own satellite feed. But there is so much more during the racing season. I wouldn't be without it.

Because TSN hacks the ITV broadcast to pieces! We get none of the pre race coverage, we are joined in mid sentence quite often, the timing of the commercial breaks is brutal and post race commentary is often cut short or is non existent.

The commentators on SPEED know when they are going to, and coming from a commercial break and fill us in on anything important that may have been missed. The ITV guys have no idea when TSN has left and come back. The pic in pic that TSN uses during the comercials is pretty much useless.

The other thing that attracts me to the American broadcast is Steve Matchet(sp?). His insight on the technical side is, for me, much more interesting than Brundles constant whinging about the drivers. Oh, and the ITV girl in the pits doing driver interviews...well. And, why do we never see these interviews? We only get audio. In fact, there are many times when the ITV guys are talking about something on screen that we are not seeing.

No, I'll take SPEED's remote coverage any day. If TSN were to broadcast the ITV coverage in it's entirety, that might make a big difference. It's not like we have much of a choice in the matter anyways. I'm glad that TSN doesn't block the Friday practice coverage that SPEED provides.

If I am able to watch live it's TSN (no choice, right). If I have to PVR for later I chose SPEED everytime.

Still no speed HD :( This is weird because it seems like almost all the other providers carry this channel in HD. Also I noticed... Why don't we have CNN HD either a lot of other providers have that channel in HD as well
