Spacing out. Scary!

Does anyone ever space out? Like when driving? Which happens to be in my case.
I was driving again today and kind of spaced out and forgot I was driving for a second. My husband was in the passengers seat and asked why I was acting so weird. I was waiting on a turn in the intersection for it to clear so I could turn and it turned yellow so I looked back to make sure I had enough room and started to back up to wait my turn for the green light. I was lost in though and didn't realize the light had turned green and it was my turn to go. He asked me are you ok, you're acting weird, I said I'm not and kind of snapped back out of it and went on.
I can be driving and not even remember half of the trip once I get there.
It doesn't happen very often but when it does it feels like I am in a daydream state for a minute. It is unnerving and kind of scary. What causes this?
Is it caused by stress? I've been under a lot of stress lately.

Well, I've been known to go on "auto-pilot" when driving and find that I seem to become aware at some point and wonder how the heck I got where I am since I don't remember any of the drive to get there, but I think that's just me thinking while I drive.

If it's more than that for you, I'd be concerned. You might be having mini-strokes or mini-seizures. Are you at risk for either of these due to family history, do you think?

I think that I'd get it checked out by a doc. You don't want to become unaware at a critical time and cause an accident. I actually know a lady that had a seizure while driving and wrecked. She was the only accident victim, but it was bad enough.

Hamilton92: EagleRiverDee is right, go get checked by a neurologist. This started happening to me 5 years ago and I didn't realize it at the time but I was having seizures. It all started with perimenopause. The triggers are stress, lack of sleep, fluorescent lights, chemical smells, MSG, and the biggest culprit is Estrogen Dominance. It's the hormone changes going on in the brain. Stress also releases toxins into the body and it's not good for us.

I can't get the seizures under control and I did exactly what Eagle said her friend did - I wrecked my car!!!!!!!! Now I can't get my license back until I'm 6 mo. seizure free.

Keep track of these episodes and see if they're happening right before, during and after your period. Also see if they happen right around the new moon and the full moon.

Do you feel any tingling or buzzing feelings going up the side of your head?

You might also want to get your vitamin levels checked and also see if you're low in magnesium. Magnesium is lowered by caffeine consumption. Caffeine can also be a trigger to head issues. B6 and B12 can help with the nervous system.

Look up info on the Epilepsy boards and see if anything there helps you.

I don't know how old you are but you might consider getting your hormones checked to see if you could be estrogen dominant.
