South Park on Comedy Central at 5PM?!

Okay, so I was on comedy central eariler, and I saw that South park was apparentarly on At 5 PM E/P (4 PM where I am at), and It was TV-14-DLV. Are they trying to air the syndicatied versions of the episodes or what?

I didn't see it but I don't think Comedy Central has the syndicated cuts of the episodes since I'm fairly sure they just have one version of each South Park episode. Furthermore why do they need to air the synidcated cut? Comedy Central isn't a kids channel: It's an adult one and they have no problem airing raunicher material at earlier hours. There are some generally uncut and R offense movies they air late at nights but that is at the 12AM and above hours where certain networks can do such things. I don't think there's a rule that you need to air regular TV-MA content like South Park at a certain time since they reguarly air episodes at 8 and 9PM.

They're probably testing something, maybe trying to see if MA-rated shows can air in the afternoon.

I remember when i visited my mother in Canada they aired South Park at 5:30pm EST Mon-Fri.

Maybe they're airing edited material in the afternoon b/c of the snowstorm and so young teens can see it?

What episode was it? There may be a few South Park episodes they could get away with showing in the afternoon.

I used to see SP on WB in the afternoon, so maybe they are the cut episodes from that run.

Comedy Network, up here in Canada, has doing that since Fall 2009 but it was an edited version.

Seriously? In the afternoon? My affiliates won't even bother to show it (or Sex and the City) until after midnight... broadcast rules vs cable rules...

Different areas do different things. The local Fox airs Family Guy reruns at 6:30. Actually, the one on right now is the pretty raunchy "Brian and Stewie".

Well, so does mine (it's a CW though). But I remember when South Park and Sex and the City entered syndication, they would move slots, but never aired before midnight, and it's kind of obvious why - editing down a basic cable show is one thing, but a premium network show like Sex and the City from HBO is even worse (especially when you consider that South Park still airs on commercial television - Sex and the City episodes are actually nearly a half-hour long). I figured that since they're so raunchy, they couldn't be show before midnight - Family Guy is originally a broadcast TV show.

When I originally posted this thread, It was the conclusion of who was cartman's father from season 2.

Oh, and South Park airs at 5pm on the CW affiliate in San Diego XETV 6, and at 6pm on the myNetworkTV affilate in Seattle, KZJO.

It is the syndicated cuts that CC's airing in the afternoon. You can tell because they have the syndicated opening credits where they cram in every character whose ever appeared. With 200 plus episodes, I'm not surprised that they're finally doing this. There's only so many nightime slots they can give the show, so it's only natural they expanded to daytime hours with tamer TV 14 cuts of the show.

Slightly off topic but I believe that channel also plays Family Guy in the afternoon and plays King of the Hill and The Simpsons like at 9 or something. I always thought that they should switch them around.

I always thought 7pm was a shade early (for some reason, I get the east coast Comedy Central feed) but I do think timeslots are becoming obsolete.

Timeslots have been obsolete for a while now, thanks to Hulu, DVD, and various other ways to watch t.v. shows at any point during the day. I'm surprised it's taken CC this long to start airing South Park during the daylight hours.

That's not entirely the case when it comes to content. Because Hulu and various other services have age blocks on them (but they're plenty easy to get around if you're not 18). Even so they have them and apparently that's all that is required. Where as unless a TV has a v-chip or other method of self-censorship the time frame in which channels can air raunchier programming isn't unlimited outside of premium channels. Comedy Central is adult targeted but they're not a premium channel so them playing TV-MA shows in the early evening is still a no go.

TV-14 sure, lots of networks will air TV-14 shows in the afternoon but some TV-14 shows push the envelope pretty far and are generally not aired that early in the day but every network differs though.

Regardless of being able to watch shows at any time of the day as we please those restrictions are still in play.

Age enforcement on the internet is in need of serious improvement. Hulu and Facebook just ask for a birthdate, and sites like South Park Studios don't even bother. This is part of why I agree that timeslots are becoming obsolete. How many NCIS/CSI reruns are there during the day that contain graphic violence? A lot.

Bottom line, parents are supposed to be keeping an eye out and making sure their kids aren't watching stuff like South Park after school.
