South Park- "Breast Cancer Show Ever" - Talkback

Miles better than last week's episode. Keep it simple and the show works. Cartman's jokes about breast cancer were a perfect example of "so wrong it's funny" while Wendy provided enough of a counterbalance to keep the show from being truly tasteless.

Up next, David Allan Grier presents the premiere of his new show, "I'm Black BTW".

I love how Butters just instantly switched alliegances when he saw Cartman getting his butt handed to him.

"**** him up, Wendy!!!"

Though apparently he doesn't like him the same as the rest of them, which brings up the question as to why he acts like his sidekick so much.

I didn't think this episode was particularly funny. I also find it kinda weird that breast cancer jokes are what earns Cartman a beating, since it's really one of the least offensive things he's done/said. Breast cancer is over 22.3 years old, afterall. ;)

I thought at first that Cartman's constant stalling was a satire of McCain postponing his campaign, but it seemed to be reaching a bit, even for me. I do hope they give us one good jab at the election before the 4th of November.

Same here, heh. Anyway that was an amazing episode. Miles above last weeks and I loved like every second of it. Although that may just be because I've always liked Wendy but still. This is classic South Park right here. And whenever there is an episode like this it always feels kinda weird because I'm used to the current South Park which is usually parodying current events that happened like three days or a week ago. But you have to remember there was a time when South Park was always simple like this. I'm glad they still do episodes like this as they almost always turn out great.

A Unicorn throwing up stars?

I thought it was way, way, way better then the travesty that was last week (which was easily the worst episode of SP ever). Everything was excellent, it really made me want them to use Wendy more as part of the main 4 kids. The only problem I had was that Stan (although he knew Wendy could handle herself, which was portrayed nicely) wasn't involved as much in the episode. I kind of figured they would have had a short scene of agreement between Stan and Wendy before the fight. Regardless, loved the episode.

This is shaping up to be the worst 1/2 season ever. Very lame episode, very predictable (though I did mess up on the ending, I though Cartman would actually beat her ass cause no one would've seen that coming).

Overall: C (Crap, but better than the previous episode)

I think people are still missing the point of Cartoon Wars.

OK, why does hatred for Indiana Jones 4 need to be explained? IT WAS ALL RIGHT THERE! Watch Raiders of The Lost Ark, one of the greatest movies of all time. And then watch Crystal Skull with stupid idiotic CG monkeys and prairie dogs. To people like Parker and Stone, it was an insult and a disgrace to something they really loved.

Anyone know the British sitcom Spaced? Series 1 of Spaced is like a giant love letter to George Lucas and Star Wars. Then Series 2 which came out after Episode 1 is like complete and utter heartbreak of being betrayed by your spouse or something. Simon Pegg's character would never let go of how much he hates Star Wars. Tons of gags after gags with nonstop Episode 1 hate. In commentary, actress Jessica Hynes is not so hard on Episode 1, but there's this overwhelming feeling from Edgar Wright, Pegg, and Matt Stone who has also done guest commentary on Spaced that the Star Wars prequels were just a giant betrayal and twisted perversion of true classics.

It's not far off from the Indy thing here.

The true point of Cartoon Wars wasn't about bagging Family Guy, it was about censorship. It was intelligently and smartly executed. But all people care about is ragging on Family Guy, even though the rags were pretty 100% accurate. The producers of Family Guy play it off like, "Oh they are just jealous, and they are threatened by us." But I mean when Family Guy first came around, in those Wizard animation magazine specials, in interviews do you know what Seth McFarlane credited as a big influence for Family Guy? South Park.

I thought this episode was hilarious. Any episode where everything is turned on Cartman is pretty fun. And the thing is, Wendy and Cartman have had a conflict going back to the first season. Back in the day when Cartman won an essay contest by putting his name on Walden when Wendy put some actual effort into an essay about dolphins. And here this felt like a fulfilling climax after almost 10 years of buildup. When Wendy is done almost beating the life out of Cartman, she says she's finished (nice nod to There Will Be Blood). Destroying Cartman was a good thing for her because he did truly deserve it and it gave her catharsis. People say that revenge or violence doesn't solve anything. Wendy herself is a progressive, liberal pacifist (well on the outside at least, she did shoot a teacher into space because she thought she was nosing in on Stan), but Cartman had it coming. The cancer comparison was wholly accurate in this case. Fighting and beating Cartman did help Wendy and it did make her feel better.

You know, I thought thats what was gonna happen too. I mean it was nice to see Cartman finally get his (especially from Wendy) but I was actually predicting that he would kick her ass and then everyone at the school would accuse him of being a woman beater.

I don't know, I think everyone in the school might already be thinking in that direction as it is considering some of Cartman's sexist rants from the past ("Hey, go in the kitchen and make me some pie before I smack you in the face!")

But this ep was far better than last week's. Here's hoping that there was one dud in the batch and the rest of S12 will be worth watching.

What it reminded me of was 3 O'Clock High, how he kept doing crazier things to get out of the fight. I half expected him to kiss Mr. Garrison when he climbed on top of his desk.

Cool to see somebody else remembers that movie. It's one of my all-time favorite high-school underdog flicks.

It's also kind of funny that Spielberg had his name removed from the credits of that movie but ended up creating Crystal Skull and other stuff years later, which the SP guys hated

See, I get that. Really, I do. What I DON'T get is how Crystal is worse than Temple. Seriously. Where was all the hate when Temple came out? And how could anyone who's seen Temple expect a new Indy to be anything but crap?

It was around. Lucas and Spielberg don't even like it that much. Reviews tore the movie apart especially Willie Scott. People complained that Willie Scott was a sexist, anti-feminist character. There was a ton of hate against the movie. And the point of Last Crusade was to try and do something similar to Raiders to make up for Temple of Doom.

Also, every day of the week I will still pick Temple of Doom over Crystal Skull.

OK, but I felt that with "The Chinese Probrem", Trey and Matt raped South Park just as much as Spielberg and Lucas raped Indy with Crystal Skull (if not more). And could have being funnier and more interesting with how they critisied IJIV. They didn't even mention Shia LeBeof's character.

If Trey and Matt are anti-Lucas, are they anti-Paul Dini? And I was bothered by the logistics of the rape scenes, as I explained in that episode's talkback.

I did like "Breast Cancer Show", though: Wendy is one of my all-time favorite characters in the show. Gotta love interesting female characters (something Family Guy could use *wink, wink*).
